Obviously the chicken did not cross the road but the road (with the rest of the earth attached to it of course) moved laterally a distance equal to the road's width. The chicken refused to actually move, so he had to move his legs in a walking motion as to not get tripped up by the laterally moving road, thereby creating the illusion that the chicken crossed the road, even though it was obviously just walking on the spot. Duh.

The way I see it there are two posibilities
1)The chicken and the road do not exist and are mearly creations of the colective consciense sp?
Or more likely: 2)The chicken had already consumed all of the shrooms in the cow pasture on this side of the road and was simply going to the next cow pasture witch just happened to be on the other side of the road.

If the chicken exploded and there was only several miles of wooded car damage, who would be the father of the baby?

Hmm...why did the chicken cross the road? Who knows? Humans cross roads all the time, and we don't question them for doing such...Leave the chickens alone man. Peace.

The chicken crossed the road because it was not living an impeccable life and was killing time with it's personal folly.
Why did I cross the road?
Because I was screwing the chicken.

-------------------- Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I don't think the chicken specifically set out to cross the road. I think it was headed in a certain direction and just happened to come upon the road, which presented no obstacle to the chicken, and which the chicken just so happened to cross.

The chicken crossed the road because it was there to cross.

The chicken crossed the road because I fucking said so, so fuck off.

The chicken crossed the road because there was a powerful force acting through him, while still giving him the illusion of being the one doing the acting.. after crossing the road, and feeling the immensity of the moment, he suddenly became aware of what was happening and what was acting through him... the world then became mightily different for the chicken from that point on..... Peace.

The chicken crossed the road because he/she sought adventure, a chance to discover something new. Whether it be the sound of screeching tires, the pain of being smashed into a pancake, or the victory of having made the journey only to find nothing or perhaps finding something so huge chickenkind could not fully understand it. To put a better spin on possible conclusions to the question, how about asking "Why did the human blast off to other planets orbitary to his own?".
