Is there any belief more retarded?

Somehow we are supposed to overlook the total lack of evidence and all of the internal inconsistencies merely because this myth was passed down and integrated into certain cultures?

Animals allegedly have no volition, yet if a bunny is a good bunny and not an evil bunny it might come back as a human. Or something...

I think some people do take it too far. I think their doctrine states there is not a self to be reincarnated or something.

There's some flies by my cottage that hatch around sunset, fly around and mate, lay eggs and are dead all in the span of an hour. Think of all the deep spiritual lessons a soul could learn during that amazing adventure as a fly.

I think there are a lot of beliefs "more retarded" than reincarnation. I was born once and that was quite unexpected. Who am I to say it couldn't happen again?

Belief is retarded. I don't see how reincarnation is any more retarded than any other belief. I like reincarnation, its a fun story, but the idea would be to describe it better than you can.

And heaven, in my opinion must be absolute bull. Consider if it was true - how many people would get into heaven? Loads. But then even inside religions not everyone likes everyone else...so if all people who believed in God/whatever went to heaven, then surely it wouldn't be a nice place...

I'm sure I saw something about this on Peep Show, quite possibly (and ironically) the one where Jez takes shrooms. :laugh: or maybe I've just made that up.

There are two understandings, I will take the one I dislike first: it is the one known to come from Eastern belief which states the universe is some kind of judging machine, and everyone will pay their karma debts, etc. In this story, which brought about the Indian caste system, if you are a slave for some rich twat this means your 'workin out your karma' and should not challenge the status qu, and your servitude---because the universe wants it this way. This story is GREAT for the elites who can then carry on guilt-free as they oppress those they consider below them karmically.

But there is a far more ancient and sensible understanding, and it is that nature is sacred, and so are its cycles of life, death, and regeneration. So ALL of us should understand the intelligence of nature, because we are al part OF nature, and come and go and come and go. So it is important therefore to care for nature because if we don't we just are harming our selves.
