This is what happens in every national controversy in this country. People on both sides take it too far, and the media only covers the two extremes.

Chik-Fil-A is mostly found in the South where people really cotton to gay-bashing. This type of event (by which I mean the counter-boycott in favor of Chik-Fil-A) doesn't help people live with their urges in a hostile community. Every reason traditional marriage supporters have to defend their actions is irrelevant, or flat out wrong.  If its because of your religion, you can't use that as an argument for government policy. If you think its unnatural, there are hundreds(if not thousands) of animals that exhibit homosexuality on occasion.  It is for this reason alone that gay equality advocates (the national majority) look down at these people as bigots.  They're rationale is as misguided and ignorant as those who wanted to keep interracial marriage illegal.
