Well, for me it's like this:

Why do some men choose to grow beards or mustaches, whereas other men choose to have a clean-shaven face? Why do some women wear makeup or jewelry while others do not?

Different people like to adorn their bodies in different ways. Our bodies are our own personal pieces of artwork. They are the canvas of our souls--always on display in the art gallery of society. What is considered to be art or beautiful by one person may not be by another.

Imagine a world where every painting is a Picasso.

Does that explain it?

Yes and no.

The mainstream resurgence of tatoos doesn't seem as much like personal expression as it does wanting to belong or peer pressure.

For example: did 100,000 young men simultaneously "decide" to have a tatoo encircling their bicep(s) with a Maori or Celtic design?

Did 100,000 young women spontaneously and independently "decide" that a belly button ring would look sexy?

Me no think so.

I'm not much in to body modification. I did have a tongue piercing once when i was younger. Only reason i did it was because i girl i knew said it would look so sexy on me.
