In that line of logic there are an infinite number of gods each smaller than the previous. Why would things start complex instead of simple?

I don't think I need to give sources for the Spanish inquisition, the Third Reich, the Salem witch trials, Slavery (it's in the Bible!) the crusades, and so on. You can argue that there were also political and monetary forces in play but religious myths are what were used to rationalize the madness in every case. It's an enabler of tyranny and oppression and it doesn't deserve tolerance after all it has done. I've met many seemingly good people who are religious, but somehow it consistently turns into evil shit. It always has and always will, b/c it's human answers to human problems that are passed off as truth worth being fanatical about.
