I'll be honest, I'm not comfortable with how readily atheists will say "God doesn't exist".

The concept of God has a pretty loose definition, and has TONS upon TONS of different interpretations. Saying that God doesn't exist is rather absolute, and lacking tact.
It's too general of a word that is much too personal to throw around so lightly.

And that is the sociology of it. If you think THAT doesn't exist, then that may explain some of your perspectives :lol:

I agree with this. I identify as an athiest but I have no doubts that there may in fact be a creator of the universe. The reason I say I'm an athiest though is because I am certain that there is no "God" in the sense that Christians and Muslims and every other major religion thinks there is. If this universe was created by a sentient entity then I think It would be much more preoccupied and interested in the birth of stars and the formation of galaxies than a population of self-aware apefolks on a little rock planet.

That being said, I also believe that the universe may NOT have been created by some entity, and could have instead stemmed from the interactions of even greater cosmic forces on a scale that makes our universe barely molecular in size by comparison.

No, he's hurting himself. He's turning off his brain for a warm fuzzy feeling, and now he's likely to do that in other situations as well. Humans saved his wife, not god and he should give them credit. Faith is ignorance and we already have plenty of ignorant people running around.

Honestly, I think a lot of time people misinterpret what atheism means.

Strictly speaking, is not just a lack of belief in god?

See, here's where the problem is.
I agree that people from the bronze age knew very little about how the world/ universe worked. But you're so quick to assume everyone buys into  the fundamentalist dated religions created by man.
I don't have a specific god, but I can't say there is no god. I can't be sure the reality around me isn't just an illusion or thought, science included.

Just don't make the naive mistake of grouping "god" into "religion".
God can mean many things. For me a good example is life itself. Watch a plant grow, as the leaves and flowers progress you'll start to notice life has a certain attractive style to it. Maybe thats god. Maybe god is energy or the life force that you are witnessing. That same life force that gives the plant the need to survive and grow is also responsible for your life and everyone you ever knew. Is this not god by some definition?

Im not saying science is wrong. I'm just saying that they may not be asking the right questions. And if mans religion is fallible (and we know it is) then so is mans science.

You shouldn't frame arguments until you know what they're called. It's called the Cosmological argument; and it's absurd and proves nothing.

80% chance if I defend it, you'll just dodge and jump to the Teleological argument, or if you're really dull an Ontological angle. Or any of a half-dozen of a priori proofs which cannot be taken as actual evidence due to their very definition and nature.

At any rate, you should study philosophy before trying to be a philosopher, or you'll make quite an ass of yourself. You've already used a straw man attack and you probably had to google a priori; so I am not going to play these games with you.

The same conversation with my college professor is polite, productive, and enlightening- why would I waste my time explaining these conceptualizations to someone who immediately frames personal attacks on my demographic?

LOL Christians are self-evidenced to be on the same intelligence level of George Bush, who they praised while in office. Unless you forgot about that part, or something.
