Oh shit, I forgot that one cannot have these same benefits while including some meat into their diet, or that having a vegetarian diet will necessarily result in the manifestation of those said benefits. :hehehe:

Quote:

This is probably because vegetarians, in general, are more conscious about what they put into their bodies than non-vegetarians; this doesn't necessary imply that vegetarian diets are generally more healthy than diets which include some meat.

Yeah and if people learned not to use so much fuckin salt, fat and oil in the food the eat a omnivorous diet would be equally as healthy, They are basing these facts off the general populace and you know how most of them eat

if you go up a couple posts, I explained as to how it is relative.  Yet if one were to average out diets and generalize the facts are relevant.

The healthiest diets for humans contain some amount of meat

Quote:
We know that we need some amount of cholesterol in order to live. In fact our animal bodies make cholesterol regardless of what we eat. Fat foods with high density lipoproteins (HDL) describes the good cholesterol. Low density lipoproteins (LDL) describe the bad cholesterol. Eating some fats have known benefits while others show a danger.  Atherosclerosis comes from the fatty deposits due to LDL clinging to the walls of arteries. Saturated fats raise both LDL and HDL levels of cholesterol, and trans fats (the worst of all fats) raise LDL while lowering HDL (not a good thing).

Both plants and animals have saturated and trans fats, so simply eliminating animal fat does not necessarily reduce bad fat consumption. In fact, some vegetarian diets yield higher levels of saturated and trans fats (including hydrogenated oils) than meat-vegetable diets!

Quote:
The evidence so far shows that fatty fish provides the best source of unsaturated fats, especially omega-3 fatty acids, something almost guaranteed to lower triglycerides and LDL cholesterol, especially if you eliminate the saturated fats. This means that the healthiest diets, should include some animal flesh, and yet because some animal fats contain the worst forms of fat, one can also construct an unhealthy diet by eating the wrong forms of flesh.

I should also mention that in spite of the evidence that polyunsaturated fats offer health benefits, other studies have shown that consuming high amounts of polyunsaturated fat (especially omega-6) may increase the risk of metastasis in cancer patients and possibly increase the risk of cancer in healthy people. Apparently polyunsaturated fats tend to oxidize and this leads to an increase of free radicals. However, studies have shown that low dosages of Coenzyme Q10 reduces this oxidation. These studies suggest that we should not have too much polyunsaturated fat in our diets and always accompany them with anti-oxidants.

Meat or dairy products offer the only foods that contain enough of the essential amino acids required by the human body. A vegetarian, however, must carefully choose from a variety of vegetables in order to get the right amino acid combination. Also, plant protein has a relatively low biological value and digestibility compared to animal protein. Moreover, the amount of protein needed per day demands that the vegetarian must eat enormous amounts of plant food per day just to get enough protein in their diet.

Furthermore, the best and most abundant source for B vitamins come from animal products (yes you can get B vitamins from yeast and other plants but a pure vegetarian diet has very little B vitamins unless supplemented by vitamin pills, many which contain animal products). Furthermore, some studies suggest that carnosine, only found in meat, has beneficial antioxidants that might explain why vegetarians don't live longer than some groups of people who include meat in their diet (see below). Carnosine supposedly protects against age-related diseases.

no one really answered op's question

filet mignon is probably the best cut of steak if you don't mind paying for it. NY strip is also good and its cheaper. you want to go simple with good steak, don't overpower its natural flavors, I usually rub olive oil, fresh garlic, salt and herbs on the steak, beat it up/stab it with a fork, and let it sit for a couple hours. you want to let it come to room temp then cook it on med-med high so the outside is a bit charred. somewhere between medium and medium rare is the best cooked steak with a juicy pinkish red center. you can test the doneness of your steak by pressing it, if its hard then its more well done softer is more rare, you'll get the hang of it after few times.

"In fact, some vegetarian diets yield higher levels of saturated and trans fats (including hydrogenated oils) than meat-vegetable diets!" Yes, because I eat coconuts, and chocolate all day long while washing it down with hydrogenated oils. Duneraver got it right with having the same diet, but switching animal protein for plant based protein will be much healthier.

I also want to point out that you can get omega-3s easily from flax, and that cyanocobalamin is extremely abundant.

Where are you getting this? What type of scientific article uses first person???

I always eat steak with mashed potatoes, but a baked potato sounds good.  The best steak cut is filet mignon like Dr. said above, very expensive though.  NY strips are good also, london broil cuts can be good but they are not as tender as the more expensive cuts.  You get more food for your money with the london broil, but it isn't as awesome.  Medium-rare is definitely the way to go on steak.  I really like steak grilled over charcoal because it tastes so awesome but it's tricky to do.

But yeah as far as sides go, mashed potatoes (or baked potatoes) are good, I also like canned asparagus with my steak.  Baked beans can also be good with it.  Fried okra is the best side of all time but only okra from the garden, not the kind from the grocery store freezer.

Meat is awesome, hope it works out well with you.
