A very subtle white-noise hum... I could easily sleep in the same room with it running, and I'm a light sleeper. The Dayton brand is really nice. Found my blower here: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml then noticed there was a store office close to me, so I just went there and picked it up. If you live in a medium sized city, then you might have one close by.

Well, I laid down a sheet of frisket film, drew the shroomery logo shrooms, ran a X-acto knife along the outline, removed the inner part keeping a stencil like border of the frisket film down. Then I sprayed the lighter blue first, then carefully blended a darker blue around the edges. Ended it off by laying a wire screen over it and lightly spraying some of the darker blue over it. ...not sure if you can tell there's a faint cross hatch like screen pattern in there. For the letting i just bought some stick on letters from Hobby Lobby, laid down a straight edge and configured/centered them on by hand. Had to peel some back up and replace them just right a few times. then I detail sprayed/blended the paint around the edges of the lettering.

The only thing I would change is to cover that window for the UV light. It's not going to help your agar and even a UV light that small could damage your eyes.

My curiosity is about the uv-c lamp which I have done more than a little research about. From my understanding the rate of FAE caused by the fan will drop its efficacy dramatically not to mention 14 watts is very weak in terms of how strong a lamp should be to even begin to seriously purify fast moving air.

I'm not trying to knock you and don't need to tell you that this thing is fricken awesome, that you built.

I've had an unwaivering curiosity towards uv-c lamps for a while and you got my wheels a turning. Something along the lines of a powerful uv-c lamp inside of a flowhood using the 93% fepa filters.

And after a small amount of research even that idea is bogus. A 40watt bulb wouldn't get er done. At that strength it may be effective via repetitive passes so it would work as an effective measure to exponentially lower living microbes based on run time. Exposure times of at least 60 seconds are a must at even 40watts with a distance under 8 centimeters...........I'll just stop.


ps- Please in the name of all that is holy don't expose yourself to the bare light of that lamp any more. What the hell are/were you thinking? I like cancer? If you must know just plain white paper is enough to block the ill affects as well as regular glass like that from a house window...

Well, I'm sure there isn't any openings in the filter that just freely let particles pass through on a non resistant basis... imaginative thinking leads me to believe that the rare chance a small micron particle does get through (0.03% chance) its because the particle has been sitting against the filter and the wind current overtime eventually helps it wiggle and find its way through. Over this time (Months prolly) I'm sure this lamp has had PLENTY enough time to render the particle inert while it was first sitting against the filter...

I vaguely remember reading that the light (UV-C,B) can't pass through just any glass, after-all the glass-like portion of the bulb it self isn't glass at all, its crystal. I read and investigated allot about the bulb, and UV-B,C lights in far depth before I added it into the project. This bulb is a direct replacement for a UV-B,C air purifier. Much like the same example they use to purify the air in hospitals...

So, without sounding ungrateful for the plethora of sound advice and Ingenuous ideas, any way in the future we could get a list of basic measurements? Also just curious.. when you say match the blower to the filter I assume there is a method to your madness and not match the filter to your blower. Is this because the filters are more expensive or...? 

After reading this tek I immediately started a parts list and commenced a new build..:cheers:
