really nice job dude! congratulations!

two things i am concerned about:

-i would rather go with a decent hepa filter, its a really pain in the ass to find out after few weeks of faliure, that it was the filter that was malfunctioning.


-the uv lamp. if it would be strong enough to have effective use in such a short time the air passes trough, than it will damage the hepa filter, and even your eyes on the other side. really no need for that small uv, imho.

I have used this hood on 5 separate occasions and no contams. I even whipped up some agar plates and set them in the work cabinet for hrs, then successfully added tissue samples with no contams. It feels odd being able to freely lay your shit out and work without critiquing every sterile technique procedure. Turning the hobby into more of a fun/educational experiance, aposed to a chore. 'IMO' when a contam may slip through the filter 0.03% of the time (Slim chances) its due to the contam resting against the filter, and over time wiggling its way through cause of the extensive air flow. (Tho I do not have any factual info on such an opinion) In the act that when a contam is sifted out by the filter, the lamp comes into play (having excess amount of times to thoroughly expose the contam to the UV-C rays) then if it later wiggles through, it will be rendered inert. All'n'all, its working like a charm by what I can see (and tested), I haven't seen any reason to upgrade my H.E.P.A filter yet...

I think its in referance to you using wood glue and silicone for fastening. :shrug:
