If the Buddha stopped the karmic wheel in meditation,

A) Thoughts
B) Actions
C) Thoughts and Actions
D) None of the above

Not for sure.

Well all action at its foundation is proceeded by thought, whether the thought is intentional or not. You can have thought without action, but can you have action without thought?

Good question...
I can only respond with another question, a question based on the ideas I have been exposed to about behavior. That antecedents (events that come before a behavior, an example being thoughts, and then consequences, the events that come after a behavior. These could very well be thoughts once more. Taking morality as an example, you think "should I do this?" then you act, your consequence is guilt. That guilt will likely reinforce that behavior in a negative way. You are less likely to engage in a behavior that causes you guilt -- unless you problem solve the feelings of guilt. Trace them to their roots and find out where it stems from. Then, by changing that, you can change the reinforcement of certain behaviors.


Now, as you read that, how can you untangle whether the behavior caused the thought (guilt -> I need to stop) or the thought caused the behavior (This guilt deal sucks -> problem solving behaviors)?

I'm not sure if I can untangle it, but I still see the thought being an antecedent as well as a mechanism to perceive the action, as well as a facilitator of any after effects (in the form of memory). Without our thoughts we are nothing. Without our thoughts, we are everything. :wink:

I would have to say C. Due to the fact some things that I think I know I shouldn't act on because it would be extremly bad karma. Most things that I do and think hopefully have good karma attached to them but one can never be sure.

Do you remember the past-lives of all the molecules in your body?
A single "chain" of past-lives is highly unlikely, I would imagine
something more like, you are from the Tao and return to the Tao.

Remember, Science preaches the Big Bang,
that means all matter was once so dense and highly connected
- we are literally all one being.

Does that mean the karmic wheel ceases to hold power over you when it becomes a part of you?
Or that it loses power when you realize that karma never came anywhere but from yourself?

What function does it serve? Certainly we don't impose it on ourselves for no reason.
