if we can find the underlying biological causes of symptoms that are lumped into a disorder, we can not only more accurately define the disorders, but we can more effectively treat them.

One hell of a frightening sentence for me.
You describe disorders as being the result of cultural influences, but want to correct them biologically.
It seems like a contradiction, but perhaps I'm reading you wrong.
If it is a cultural creation, how can there be a physiological issue?
And if there is a physiological issue, how can it merely be a cultural creation?

If the two blend, and it is simply a physiological issue BECAUSE of cultural responses to it, how are we any better off than with clinical psychology? Perhaps more effective for creating a 'standardized' person, but I see little else to gain. Is an even playing field really the goal here? I like evolutionary forces to act on the brain, including what occurs due to the social environment. If the social environment is unwelcoming to a certain brain adaptation, why exactly should I mold it to conform? It's just going to increase the potential for that abnormality to remain in the genetic pool. Ah, I guess it is good for capitalism....

Much of psychology is focused on correcting 'disorders,'

I beg to differ. Much of psychology is about leaving the person with as much of themselves as possible, but with the added capability of functioning in the world. Many people who exhibit enough symptoms to qualify for disorders will never require treatment because these symptoms do not significantly impair their functioning. If you operate in the world, there is no desire to change you. If you want to change yourself while you can function, it's going to come with a bill.

As for mirror neurons, I always thought they were significant because they finally gave us a physiological mechanism to explain vicarious learning. And offshoots such as empathy as being areas of interest to learn more about. I've read some articles in which therapists explain mirror neurons being part of their "blank slate" process in which they come to learn they were experiencing dissociation when the client experienced it, etc.

I'm a psychopharmacology guy myself. I need to be finding myself research opportunities, I switched my major pretty late in the game and only have a couple of semesters left and I need to get to grad school

I think the whole theory is a construct to miminize our respect of "lower" animals.

the whole brain is the mirror system
the whole brain operates as an associative processor
simmilarity in events causes recall, and recall causes reactions
I am not surprised at all that amimals have much or our cognitive ability especially the basics of associative processing.

I seriously doubt that any mirror neuron will be discovered.

association is the domain/function of the whole brain.

Have you ever taken any courses or anything in neurobiology?

yes I did take several courses in that which might explain why I am so snarky.

many of my professors had very stupid theories, and they got funding from people who understood less than they did.
the mirror neuron idea is kind of like that.
but if you publish you get funding for more research.
if your peers pan the article it gets harder to be published again.
like that
much opportunity for bad science.

The inner possibility of accordance:

...How is the statement able to correspond to something else, the thing, precisely by persisting in its own essence (as a statement)?

Correspondence here cannot signify a thing-like approximation between dissimilar kinds of things. The essence of the correspondence is determined rather by the kind of relation that obtains between the statement and the thing. As long as this "relation" remains undetermined and is not grounded in its essence, all dispute over the possibility and impossibility, over the nature and degree, of the correspondence loses its way in a void. But the statement regarding the thing relates "itself" to this thing in that it presents it and says of the presented how, according to the particular perspective that guides it, it is disposed. What is stated by the presentative statement is said of the presented thing in just such manner as the thing, as presented is. The "such-as" has to do with the presenting and its presented. Disregarding all "psychological" preconceptions as well as those of any "theory of consciousness," to present here means to let the thing stand opposed as object. As thus placed, what stands opposed must traverse an open field of opposedness and nevertheless maintain its stand as a thing and show itself as something withstanding.

Heidegger - The essence of truth

Here I am wondering precisely what an open field of opposedness is, and I stumble upon this thread...Any bearing?

This appearing of the thing in traversing a field of opposedness takes place within an open region, the openness of which is not first created by the presenting but rather is only entered into and taken over as a domain of relatedness. The relation of the presentative statement to the thing is the accomplishement of that bearing which originally and always comes to prevail as a comportment. But all comportment is distinguished by the fact that, standing in the open region, it adheres to something opened up as such. wWhat is thus opened up, solely in this strict sense, was experienced early in Western thinking as "what is present" and for a long time has been named "being".
