Another Concept Shot to Hell
    #1107604 -

I used to think that psycadelics helped people not be such fuckheads but alas another stupid idea shot down....

Somehow I thought that there would be no way a person could use psycadelics and be racist or even a self involved asshole.

Why do I cling to such ideals like man is inhierently good and that psycadelics are to help people not be such idiots when I am proven wrong time and time again?

Why can't I just lose all hope?

Psychedelics are just chemicals, and people are people. Drugs may help to get a person moving, but they won't change a person for the better unless that person wants to change for the better.

Not everyone who uses drugs uses them to become a better person. Some people just like getting fucked up, and if those people are assholes/racist to begin with well there's not a great chance that they will change just because they had a good trip.

Sorry if this isn't coherent enough

But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

But there seems to be some continuity between trippers or so it seems. Like for instance why do people on psycadelics see similar type things like patterns that are reflceted in Mayan/Aztec art work or concepts like eternity or divine love. These seem to be similar themes that have popped up with the use of psycadelics.

What puzzles me is how a person can manage to hold onto such absurd ideals (like am I doing the same thing by thinking this?) like racism while under the psycadelic sway. For me any ideas I had before my psycadelic use were smashed to little bits. Maybe people aren't taking enough? Maybe I took too much?

The lessons present themselves naturally. It is up to the individual to decide whether to learn from them or not.

What lessons? I have seen no lessons.

Do you not learn anything through life experiences? The lessons present themselves in many ways through your life. This is a galactic schoolyard. Spirituality 101: Life as a 3rd dimensional human. Interesting.

upupup, i used to think the same way...

i think you just want it to be true, and your becoming distressed cuz you KNOW its not true... A drug is just that. A drug. It's probably not going to reverse years and years of cultured hate and ignorance (hey, it could!)

You gotta be realistic dude, things take time. Its okay to accept this.

The psychadelic is just a catalyst... if it is used as a tool it will work like one. A tool of awareness and such.

I think it's true because it has been for me and I am a total redneck (well more like 25%).

I did not belive in god when I first took acid. Now I am at least agnostic....

What I mean is revolutionary changes were wrought in me and there is nothing I could do to stop them. The changes are permanent. What I don't get is when they aren't, I mean the levels of denial....or is it just my own perceptions that I am confusing here?

There's a big difference between a group of people SEEING the same things(auditory/visual stimulation) whilst tripping and being able(or WANTING TO) to give up their negative world view/preconceptions when they "come down". Like Trendal said, people are people....and when the FX of the given psychedelic have ended a lot of people are right back where they started, at ground zero. Of course the option is always THERE to integrate one's experience/perspective obtained or percieved whilst in the psychedlic modality but whether or not any given person chooses to do so or not is often really up to that particular individual......but still, the door has been opened and they can walk through it if they so desire

I have been wondering about the catalyst thing. I have used it for the awareness part always never really understanding using it for "fun" as I typically use amounts not set up for "fun".

Regarding the "tool" nature of pyscadelics- Is it ok to use it anyway one wishes? For instance, Aztec warriors used shrooms before battles to increase strenght and bravery. Culturally, I think that was ok for them, but if you take that use of the tool out of that context and lay it upon some gangster it dosen't seem so ok somehow.

You were at a time of your life where you weren't afraid to let go of whatever you clinged to. Whether you knew it or not, i think you let the Acid show you the way.

when i first dropped lsd i didnt know what i believed in and was very confused with life.. acid showed me 'something', and ive been dancing with that 'something' ever since, and while it's brought waves of mental confusion and conflict as the years pass and i experience new things, i know i am not selling myself short, and am searching for peace.

Good questions and comments.

Personally I think man is inherently evil but has the potential for good. I also think that is why we keep hoping. I get let down by people all the time. But I think most of that is because I expect people to conform to my preestablished ideas which are not founded on what they actually are. I know of no pill, religion, philosophy, or ideology that can permanently change the nature of man to make him an angel.
