The other day I am hanging outside the building where class will take place in about 20 minutes, smoking. I see the girl Ive dug since first of the semester sitting there, alone. I get up, walk over confidently and when I get there, i give her my name. Ask hers. Get so dumbfounded that I have already forgotten it, couldnt think of a god damned word to say so I handed her card and told her id like to get to know her.. and walked off like an douchbag.

What a fucking putz.

ironically, your chances are still better than if you'd gone over and talked nonstop. you could've made a joke or two, or at least said something like, "I've got to get back to class, but it was nice meeting you, I'll see you around."

Yeah you don't need her name. If it gets really awkward like you start dating her and still don't know her name, just ask for her full name to add her on facebook or something and voila!
