We're stuck with what evolution has done biologically, and evolution has not prepared us for today's culture and today's environments.  So we have to take our development into our own hands, and that means learning how to compensate for our dumb impulses.  I wouldn't worry about how humanity fares as a whole, it's always been a solo game.
