I contend shit is unnatural. I mean comeon, how can we eat something yellow, aromatic, and very tasty -- like a bananna -- and synthesize something brown, smelly, and only slightly tasty -- such as fecal matter.

Even if a man plants a seed and tends to the plant, the fruit is still natural.
Helping the plant to "Do its thing" doesn't change the fruit itself. It may make the fruit more healthy by making sure it is well watered and taken care of. The fruit can only benefit from our "intervention"

When you take the fruit and distort it. Then you just changed a "natural fruit" into an "unnatural (man-made) thing".

An orange juice made from a concentrate, will not be as healthy, as freshly squeezed orange juice.
Nature (God?) made these fruits for our consumption.....in their unaltered form.
There is no need to change the fruit (other than our greed)

When we take the fruit, and process it into something else, add chemicals to keep it from spoiling, we have changed this "fruit of the earth" into something else....

.....something unnatural

I think, spirit plays a role in unnaturality, as Markos stated in another thread, that god is not completely natural (of course). The same with the spiritual zone.
I once wondered, why almost every human of the 'civilized countries' tend to separate from nature.
One sidepath of thinking came to the conclusion, that our spiritual soul does not derive from nature, so it tends to build its way into kind of 'artificial'...'unnatural'

if you wanna talk about the continuum of consciousness as degrees natural-unnatural, or maybe supernatural
i have a hard time seeing the difference between humans and other apes as anything but differences in degree
there's something unnatural about them apes

Heh, if i will piss occasionally at some tree, and its fruits grow stronger, then these fruits are still natural 99%
If I go there, because its 'my tree', and piss there intentionally, its naturallity sinks to about 91.5 % :wink:

Helping two chemicals to "do their thing" by mixing them doesn't change the end result. It may make the process much more likely to happen. The resulting chemical can only benefit from our "intervention".

When I will be president over the universe (after kicking spacedragon from his throne of course), i will label everything in the supermarkets with a Coyote-scale, which will rate the naturality of a product.
I will need many mathematicians for that :smile:

Another question about the spiritual realm: Is a lie something natural ? Consider that no animal besides us has the ability to a conscious lie, only to bluff, cheat or trick, but not to lie. I would consider a lie is therefore unnatural. Perhaps that closes the circle ?
