Technology that extends your life
    #10424144 - 05/30/09 08:06 AM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Do you want to live forever?

I sure as hell would like to do some massive long-term space travel, myself, though I'm not at all afraid to die.

Common arguments for an infinite lifespan usually revolve around the overpopulation of the planet.

I have a solution.

You can forbid kids. HA! They drive me nuts anyway. Yeah, I know, I sound like a real fucker, but I remember the trouble I caused for my parents very well. I like to learn from my past mistakes.

Also, I'm not staying here if I have the option. What for? The universe is big, there's shit to see.

Infinite life would be sweet once I could head over to Alpha Centauri or something. All the technology needs to be there. I mean, it wouldn't work otherwise. But it's possible this CAN happen in our lifetimes. Technology has always excited me.

What would you do?

Plug me the fuck in as soon as you can.  If there is a way to moderately bypass mortality, then by all means I'm all for it.

Don't think I'd even give a shit if I lost emotion, as long as I didn't lose my self.

Actually, I'm stoked at the concept that we could potentially use nanites to fuck ourselves up and use it like an on/off switch.

Like, hey, I wanna be on mushrooms, BOOM. Done.

Yes.

Try to understand everything.  Only then can I formulate a purpose for my eternity.

Naturally, but I'd rather live unhappily with more knowledge than happily in ignorance for some reason.

I suppose it could be argued that emotion IS self, but this isn't the forum for that

I think living forever would be cool, but only as long as all your friends and loved ones did as well. Watching everyone die that you've ever known would really put a damper on all the fun of living for thousands of years

It's not a yes or no, really. Why can't you have both? People think I'm absolutely insane, but I'm absolutely positive that they're the crazy ones. It's just a matter of what you truly want, and if you get that, then you're damn right you'll be having a good time.

Sure, but what if during the course of your scientific/philosophical investigations you find out that the Universe is anything but what you truly want?

Well, you can always just die somehow. I'm not talking about invulnerability here. There's no reason to fear death, anyway.

Honestly, I don't know.  I don't think I'd be satisfied with happiness if I knew I was sacrificing knowledge for it, but I can't pin down my inner reasoning for this.

I would definitely trade knowing everything I mean everything for my life. Because what is the point of living if you know every thing already besides to educate every one else. But, the human race is so hard headed that you probably would be put on a stake and burned. Like if aliens came down to earth do you really think they are here to kill us. The worse in slave or torture us. I mean if they have the technology  to travel space and come here. Wouldn't you think they would have the technology to just blow us up with one button. If America was going to Nuke some place would we go there? No we would sit our lazy asses at home and push a button. We humans are really ignorant.
