I've noticed the same thing. Without exception. The food you eat keeps your body therefore your mind alive. I actually believe that what you eat affects your mental processes on all levels. How? I have no clue just intuition. It has something to do with the ratio of 'dead' to 'living' material that you consume...

I concur. Proper nutrition is very important to spiritual and mental health, as well as physical. I find that when I do not get enough fruits and vegetables, I become very irritable and unpleasant person to be around.

Protien might have a calming effect on your psyche too. cuz of the tryptophan. Try to limit your carb intake at each meal to like a small amount, like no more than a hand full of rice at each meal. Your meal with the highest carbs should be breakfast. Then you should eat a small amount throughout the day.

This is true. I would like to direct you to the work of Richard Wurtman
-------------------- To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.' Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence. Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains. Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

Hmmm, it works from my browser. Here's the url:
http://www.nap.edu/books/030905088X/html/239.html
It basically discusses how diet affects levels of neurtransmitters in the brain, and can even influence behaviour.

Yeah, like a Godzillion Hindus since the Bhagavad Gita was composed. The three 'gunas' - Sattvic (consciousness), Rajic (passion) and Tamasic (inertness) elements in food, which form the basis of Ayurvedic philosophy and medicine; and the three Tridoshas - Vata (air and space), Pita (fire and water) and Kapha (water and earth).
Ayurveda, from 'ayus' and 'vid' or life and knowledge, respectively, derives from the 4th or Atharva Veda, about 800 B.C. Cells and microbes were described 2000 years before the microscope was invented.
Space, air, fire, water and earth - the Quintessential, pentagrammatic primal elements; the five tiers of the Tibetan Buddhist stupa (Chinese: pagoda) corresponding to the five chakras of Tibetan Buddhism, all need to be recognized, nourished and balanced for psycho-physico-spiritual wholeness.

The fact that 90% of what people eats is garbage affects not only their physical health, but also their moods and mental state as well.

Vegetables, fruit, milk [products] if you can handle them, nuts and grains are a sattvic diet. Meat and wine [alcohol] and spices are rajic, passion-inducing and vegetables that grow in the Earth, like potatoes, onions, carrots, etc.are considered to be tamasic. One eats according to the temperature outside, the kind of work one is doing (a fruitarian or vegan would probably die working construction), and the kind of inner work one is doing. If one's inner work includes strengthening the body, then a strict sattvic diet won't help. One will need animal protein. Be sure to give thanks to the creature who unwillingly died for you, in addition to giving thanks to God, before eating.
