Re: morel cult thread [Re: metalhead] * 1

oh and remember that dude who said he grew morels under controlled conditions? i asked how and i got this,(I go hunt for morels each spring. When i find them i also take a good amount of soil directly around the fruit.I make a soil tea and spray it over my outside beds.It works for the inside pots occasionally. My thinking is it the interaction of soil organisms that help in the fruiting.Last spring our spring temp jumped from the 60's to the 80's and stayed there. My outside beds made some nice ones, but there were many that stalled when they were less than an inch tall.I took a few and blended them up and used it to spray my indoor pots.I've always heard that the pins of shrooms contain fruiting hormones,so i thought I'd give it a try.I did a few pots with the pin slurry,a few with pin slurry and soil tea, a few with soil tea and a few were left untreated. The untreated ones made a total of one shroom, the ones with the soil tea made 4 shrooms, the slurry and tea made 12 shrooms and the slurry alone made 4.I intend to try this again this year with more inside pots.I live in an area where i can pick a hundred pounds easily,so i just fool with them because they are so hard to grow.I doubt i could ever make them consistent enough to make it worthwhile in pots but it sure is fun when you do get a few.)

Who is this guy again?

Well it does make sense, whatever is in the soil must be the catalyst for them. That has to be the case because the growth in sterilized jars is just not sufficient enough even when there is a good nutrient source just under the barricade.
Everything ends up going to plain old vegetative growth instead of a build up of more sclerotia.
Something must get them going even more overwhelming than with a sterilized situation.

Morels will grow where ever they want!  Yes they prefer Ash,  Apple, etc............ but I have also found them in clusters around pines and other trees I first thought they wouldn't grow around,  so when some one figures out where I can find these..............never mind I know where to find them I live in MI.        Metalhead I hope you didn't through out the cultures you received the multi spore still seems good to me,  maybe I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Aiding in the fruit is a jump though so don't count on it being the trigger for fruiting.
It may instead cause the morel mycelia to form a decent amount of sclerotia or cause a sclerotium to swell even larger.
And reaching a large enough mass may be what dictates if it will fruit or not.
Plus in a larger mass there would be a higher chance of differentiation in the cells to undergo a sexual cycle.

Saying that "they grow where they want".

That's not the scientific direction we are going.

There's a reason for why "they grow where they want" and that's what we are trying to get at.

Analytical deduction.

And most of the people over on that site are always saying that phrase "they grow where they want".

no i def didn't throw it out i don't give up that easy! but the growth i got out of it looked and stood up like morel myc except alot of the individual strands had a wierd black drop at the end of it. i still have the petris growing just to see what happens. oh and will cobweb or what the hell ever mold is present on morels collonize into wbs or soil cuz i did some jars and the wbs fully collonized and the soil is showing some growth in it. i still want to get a for sure clean culture. I was wondering if someone ordered me that black morel culture from spore works could i rehimburse you for it. no prob if no. I want to get into this with a clean culture so i can do some serious work and not have to wory about contam except for my own mistakes. thanks in advance! we are going to do this shit! i will go out and get some soil samples from my spot when the snow goes away a little more.(right now we are lucky and getting a warm spell and the snow is melting, fast!) keep us updated on your projects, experiments all. good luck!:thumbup::rockon:

A weird black drop at the end of the hyphae? Sounds like a pin mold / mucor. Maybe even aspergillus.

The mold that grows on morels will colonize the ground because thats one of the methods of contamination, either the ground or the air.

The only way to know for sure if you got a good growth is if the morel mycelium starts forming those dense spots of hyphae. And usually the mycelium takes on a golden-auburn color.

Well AcidHorse I believe you and Greys were talking about Morel hunting so please tell me your scientific directions for finding Morels then!
The fact is that the Morel myc was there before the trees and some trees help them to fruit and some trees hinder.

this is untrue,
im a member of northern country morels and there is plenty of space there devoted to fact and science.
while it is not a "phd course in morelology", it is a very good website that strives to maintain good accurate information about morels.

all i'm trying to do is stay away from the morel hunting discussion. we know that they grow under all diff kinds of trees and what not. but what we need to figure out is what makes them grow there the trees are just a stimulant, inducer. i've found morels in places where there weren't trees for 200+ feet around. we need to start working with wild untreated soil and i bet when we do some success will find us. All i'm trying to do here is gather info and sooner or later we will find success. So let's not argue about hunting and bullshit. Thanks:mushroom2:

You misunderstood.

There are people on that site, some out in the stix that just shoot deer and hunt and under their avatars at least one of them, had that
phrase.

They only want to post their finds and that's it. They don't go into any discussions about mushroom cultivation and none of them are posting pictures of what they managed to get grown.

I was only pointing out that site in a humorous way.

There is no section on mushroom cultivation. They don't post pictures of anything they've tried to grow.
And I mentioned it to HuntingDaddy and he said something before that the people on there wouldn't
even know anything about doing that kind of stuff.

I know they welcome any scientific results on there on trying to grow them, but none of them are interested in fooling with it.
I figured the site was more on the level of country rural stiffs, that prefer to feed the cows, shoe the horses and run the dogs.
And the only words about this topic they would ever utter would be "They grow whereever they want to grow".

Believe me I've had them say that to me in person and it pissed me off. And that's why I don't try to talk to those types of people about
this sort of stuff. They are dense and stubborn. I have relatives in Daniel Boone National Forest in Beattyville Kentucky and the hilljacks down
in those mountains are even worse.

They won't say anything if you try to talk to them about it. They might shrug their shoulders if you
propose a theory but they never give any feedback. Yet I can talk to common people in Japan about it and shit! they even have knowledge
of Buscot and his theory of the bacteria! And these japanese people don't even have degrees. That just goes to show how much America has become a bump on a log. Rural couch potatoes.
