Sounds like the tenants of Christianity.  If you mean the Shepard (sinless) and the Lord as Jesus Christ (finding your own path to the Lord), that leaves out a lot of religions and paths.

I get a bit defensive about it since Jesus in the United States is usually forced upon people and to many is viewed as "the only way".  :punish2:

I had to leave my cat with my grandmother because I came home recently and my mom can't tolerate a cat in a house.  When I visit him twice a day and pick him up he grabs on to me and puts his claws into my clothes just enough to hold on to me like he doesn't want me to leave him.

I think he'd need a pretty good reason to leave me, but thats what it would take, a reason.  If he would leave, he would not simply evaporate, although it might appear so to me.  Although if he were lost, I might never see him again, I cannot assume that the cat ceased to exist.  Perhaps he might cease to live, whatever that means.  In any case, the cat would live on, if not only in the synaptic memory of my mind and in the nutrients it would give back to the earth.

The cat is not moving, nor is it being moved.  The cat has a way of his own.  He has a hand (or paw) in the matter, but he is the matter. 

As for gratification, interestingly enough Socrates (my cat) has little interest in gratification in the sense that you and I might normally assume.  He honestly won't touch any human food except for turkey lunchmeat with nothing on it, lol.  He's a bastard like that.  He still looks at you when you eat, almost just to see if you'll tear something off for him, only to have him touch his wet nose to it and refuse.  He has his ways.  The thing is, the cat could walk, but I think at this point the little guy probably has had his fill of walking.  We got him after someone tossed him out of an apartment at the end of the semester last year.  He's experienced being alone, and also being saved.  I honestly think he prefers the latter.  A warm home, food, water, and people to fuck with are all a cat really needs.  That last bit is just sort of a necessary evil that comes with the first bit.

I'm uncomfortable with the term "religious experience."  I often hear this term applied when one attempts to describe the effects of psychedelic drugs.  I would imagine that this description could prove to be rather confusing for one who has never had this type of experience; they might imagine a friendly chat with Jesus, Allah, or whatever fictional character they associate with the notion of religion and therefore enter into the trip with unrealistic expectations.

Oh come on now Frock.  First of all, psychedelics such as mescaline and LSD don't typically produce those types of vivid, lifelike hallucinations, at least not to such an extent that one would be able to coherently converse with said hallucination (Jesus in this case).  Also, if one were to somehow converse with an archetypal religious figure while under the influence of a hallucinogen, I would hope that upon reflection of his divine discourse, the subject might remind himself that he was tripping on a hallucinogenic drug at the time.  One could argue that the events which occur within a subject's drug experience are no less real than the events which occur to him in a state of sobriety, and I might agree, but I can't help but wonder why the sort of "religious experiences" you describe rarely seem to occur in the absence of chemical ingestion?

For those impassioned seekers looking to make contact with the realm of the gods, I hypothesize that potent deliriants would be far more effective in attaining your goals.

I've seen 'Jesus' with a kaleidescope of rainbows all around while he was up on his little cross slowly floating toward me(CEV)...My buddy and I also buried a dead seal about 20 minutes after we dropped that day at the beach. Coincidence?! fuck if I know, but 3 strong hits of acid (you were talking about mescaline..but acid..) will do some weird shit.
