I see Lucifer as having many parallels to Prometheus.

Both bring the light of truth and rebellion to an orderly system; providing the necessary chaos and disorder to spur change.

But bear in mind that worship of any deity is still feeding into the system--true liberation comes from within and not from without.

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

What if this isn't true?

I would be more inclined to suspect that liberation comes from the inside and the outside.

I'm not sure if you can have one without the other...

I think there's some truth to the merging of the macrocosm with the microcosm: both paths eventually lead to the same place; it's just that I prefer one over the other.

Here this:

"The multitude, disillusioned with christianity, whose deistic spirits will from that moment be without compass or direction, anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the True Light through the universal manifestation of the pure Doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view.  This Manifestation will result from the General reactionary movement which will follow the Destruction of Christianity AND Atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time."
-Albert Pike

"The Holy Scriptures are an entirely modern addition to the symbol...  Thus the ancient symbol has been denaturalized by incongruous additions..."
"The Occult Science of the Ancient Magi was concealed under the shadows of the Ancient Mysteries...  And is found enveloped in enigmas that seem impenetrable..."
"The teachers, even of Christianity, are in general the most ignorant of the true meaning of which they teach."
"The true name of Satan, the Kabalists say, is that of Yahveh reversed; for Satan is not a black god, but the negation of God.  The Devil is the personification of Atheism and Idolatry.  For the initiates, this is not a Person, but a Force, created for good, but which may serve for evil.  It is the instrument of Liberty or Free Will.  They represent this Force, which presides over the physical generation under the mythological and horned form of the God PAN; thence came the he-goat of the Sabbat, brother of the Ancient Serpent, and the Light-bearer or Phosphor, of which the poets have made the false Lucifer of the legend (The Master).
The ROYAL SECRET, of which you are a Prince...  is that which the Sohar [a chief Kabalistic book] terms The Mystery of the Balance.  It is the Secret of the UNIVERSAL EQUILIBRIUM: - Of that Equilibrium between Good and Evil, and Light and Darkness in the world, which assures us that all is the work of the Infinite Wisdom and of an Infinite Love; and that there is no rebellious Demon of Evil, or Principle of Darkness co-existent and in eternal controversy with God..."

"One of the most amazing images of love that I know is Persian – a mystical Persian representation as Satan as the most loyal lover of God. You will have heard the old legend of how, when God created the angels, he commanded them to pay worship to no one but himself; but then, creating man, he commanded them to bow in reverence to this most noble of his works, and Lucifer refused – because, we are told, of his pride. However, according to this Muslim reading of his case, it was rather because he loved and adored God so deeply and intensely that he could not bring himself to bow before anything else, and because he refused to bow down to something that was of less superiority than him. (Since he was made of fire, and man from clay.) And it was for that that he was flung into Hell, condemned to exist there forever, apart from his love."
-Joseph Campbell (1972: p.148-149)

Watch the Movie "Bedazzled". This will confirm your suspicions. The older version with Dudley Moore and Rachael Welsh is the best IMO.

I like to think of satan as the once most loved angel of g*d.
'He' fell by the refusal of g*ds' commands (to give humans the power over the earth) because of 'his' love toward g*d. 'He' refused the separation from g*d, therefor 'he' was punished by separation.
The funny thing is, somewhere in the apokryphes there's a text about Satan getting jealous on the humans as he did hear that god decided to give them power over the earth, because he thought he would have been the one who god decided to give power over the earth. So he broke with god, but now calls in his own power on earth mainly by denying where he had the powers from by himself.
Tragic stuff...

Let's read a multi-thousand year old book in translation with no frame of reference as to the culture(s) which created or the philosophy adapted to/from it! That should give us proper understanding of it.

Reading the bible, especially the Tanakh, without using taking into account a historical, anthropomorphic, and religious etymological frame of reference in attempts to launch critiques at religion is a good way to show you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'd say it's pretty decent literature, the good parts out of it. Some parts kind of suck. Then again Balaam is know pretty much exclusively in the bible for talking out of his ass so I dunno if I'd listen to me.

The Bible is a pretty fucking phenomenal piece of literature.

To believe anything without reason is foolish; but to dismiss anything simply because of its purported beliefs is naive.

It is truly one of the greatest compilations of fiction the world has ever known.  It is phenomenally compelling to a mind mired in a stone age outlook.

the bible does carry alot of truths, it's shrouded in hidden meanings and symbolic stories that are perhaps designed to keep the unprepared mind away... as for satan... well, destruction is opposite to creation and only humans destroy; i say evil is the result of believing in lies - fanatacism, war and politics create evil, drug fiends create evil deeds and murder for money, hell is afoot here on earth today IMO. only intent, life exists and it cannot be evil. humans determine evil.

Well dude, even if you don't like the original, the source material out there is phenomenal. Brothers Karamazov, War and Peace, both Christian works that kick some serious ass. Or take the response supplements like Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man or Thus Spoke Zarathursta, bad ass add on material!
