I've had my dreads for over 2 years.
For the people ragging on dreads, once I got mine and got a nice tan going on, it was like a pussy explosion everywhere.  I rarely meet a chick that won't flirt with me now.  My number of lays more than tripled in the past 2 years.
Mine don't smell either... people who have dreads that smell may wash them too often and they get mildewy.
And its not like a sign saying "arrest me I do drugs".
Cops never hassle me, or even look at me twice.  I've been pulled over twice since I got them, but the cops didn't give me a hard time at all, and I was stoned both times.
Cops have been nothing but friendly to me since I got my locks.

I think cops are going to give the wigger with his pants around his knees talking like a thug wearing a sideways hat more trouble than the harmless looking smiling dude with dreadlocks.

@ DragonChaser and AniNator: Where and how did you guys get your dreads put in? I recently shaved my head after growing it out for a few months, but I want to get dreads when my hair becomes long enough :laugh:

My best friend and I did them ourselves... we just sectioned our hair into clumps using tiny rubber bands.  Then, you take each clump and a metal comb and comb knots down towards your scalp, be sure to knot it up good, with as small knots as possible or else the dreads will be bumpy.
After they're done, you can leave a couple tiny black rubber bands around them for a while, and put some wax that has no petroleum products in it into the dreads, and blowdry it to make the wax melt.
The wax fucking sucks, it made my scalp itch so bad.
You're kinda done for a while after that, just be sure to hand roll them a lot to make them into a nice shape.
Be sure to get a good shampoo for them.

i just knotted them up myself. Started in the bottom back and worked my way up.

Before anything i rinsed my hair out with water and dried it out and then did it. I sectioned parts of it out throughout a week. kinda just improved it. Then i just twisted the sections and would pull pieces of the hair at the bottom a little at a time and pull upwards towards my scalp. after you do this twist pull method over and over again to one bunch it'll start knotting it's way down.and then i would take the bunch and twist in in the opposite direction. Kinda like doing a chinese stair case but you're not like making actually knots. 

and from there its a lot of palm rolling and rubbing at the root. twist rub twist rub. I didn't wash my hair for about 2 weeks after that and with in a couple of months they start shrinking. I didn't use any wax or anything, maybe a tiny bit in the beginning. to keep everything alittle smooth, but i would just not even bother. some people like section off their heads entirely with rubber bands. they kinda help in the beginning.i rubber banded them after i would get done with the twist pull.

IMO you shouldn't do it until you have pretty long hair, otherwise they tend to end up being really skinny, and uneven.

I'm sorry to say, that I had them for a brief amount of time as a teenager. :ashamed:

yeai guess i should've also mentioned that my hair was like yea deinfitely boob lenght. and it shrunk to like my shoulders/ chin and only now have they gotten close to the length my hair was before i started

I think dreadlocks on a girl is the fucking sexiest thing on the planet. I have no idea why, it is just a HUGE turn-on for me.

I've always wanted to try them, but I don't know about it enough to ever make the transition.

I had dreads in college...go figure.

I loved them so much, they made me look kind of like Zack from rage.  They were all natural to.  I just used little rubber bands to section off the hair, used only bar soap to wash, and played around with them whenever I was bored, or waiting for my next turn at Goldeneye...

I'd love to have them again, but I think I would need to get some bigger bike helmets to fit over them...

BUNK. I knew a fucking therapist who had them. They were cleaned though.

And, I had the beginnings of dreads when I was 16, but then I became a runaway, so I cut them since that's how people knew me. LAME. I want them back, I just hate letting my hair grow out.

I got mine professionally done. They use chemicals, and knotting techniques.

Unless your dreads formed by the 'nutuale' technique. eg. no washing, brushing: dreads shouldn't smell at all. I used to wash my hair 3-4days a week with PH free shampoo's (they're expensive but they do wonders, how many shampoo's make your dreads firmer?)

And contrary to belief, dreads are allot of work. I used to spend about 2hrs a week, sewing the roots and getting rid of the frizzes.

Yeah. Dreads for a lot of people are a total bitch. I used wax for mine and lots of knotting and playing. And no washing. :grin:

If you are forming dreads naturally you have to wash them, otherwise the grease build up will keep the strands from locking together.
