It's like doing a tek for the second time, you know you love doing it, the results are great but you'll probably do wayyyy better the second time you try it! lol my opinion

The messy stage of neglect dreads is the best part IMO. I love the ratty look even more than dreads honestly.

I spent so much time cleaning the dirty grease off my scalp with my fingernails, that it really wasn't conducive for leading a productive life.

But recently Ive become less than thrilled with the spacing of them. When I first had them done the lady who did them followed a "natural hair line" which left me with roughly 8 more dreads on one side of my head. This plus the fact my dreads seem to have stopped growing and are only getting shorter due to me nervously playing with them all the time leads me to want to cut em off.
It really would be only temporary. I would immediately start growing my hair out again to re-dread it in a years time or so. This time I would dread my hair myself.
Alternatively, I figure out how to revitalize my current dreads. Id need to promote growing, fix split/dead ends/ and work all the frizzies back in...
Seems easier to cut and regrow.

I dont fancy any other hairstyle at all. Dreads are my alltime favourite.
You're white, right? If so, cut them.

Cut those shit logs off your head OP. They represent drug use. I think you learned your lesson.
Turn the a leaf. Be positively judged by strangers when you walk in the street instead of them thinking you're a drug addict.

Yeah. Parts of your scalp never get clean - so much dead skin and grease. Then if you get them wet too much, they can get moldy and generally stink. It's disgusting.

I agree. Again I respect every person's right to do whatever with their body. But I think any white person with dreadlocks would look better with their natural hair.

I work in horticulture. I have piercings and tattoos also. It really doesn't matter much in my field of practice.

Oh wait, I just realized, OP is the guy who almost lost his legs due to the incredibly irresponsible research chemical binge??!?
I forgot about that.
Yeah dude, cut them off, start fresh. It's time.

drr said: Had dreads for about five years, cut them off about 8 years ago and wish I would never have done it in the first place. I think it really thinned out my hair.
Looking back, now, it was disgusting. Sometimes you just do stupid shit when you're young. The feeling of being able to run my fingers through my clean hair, I would never go back. OP I'll bet if you cut them off you'll decide not to re-dread them eventually, but I could be wrong.
I respect every person's right to have whatever hairstyle and wear whatever they want. I just kinda think when I see somebody older than their early twenties, or 27, or definitely 30, who is a white guy with dreadlocks, unless you've got a good job that is okay with your hair, or run your own business and are doing well for yourself... If you're working shit jobs and struggling to get by, as I imagine a lot of these people are, it gets kind of old. Just grow up and join the real world, already. Your identity isn't clumps of matted hair on your head, it's not going to be forever. Basically what I'm saying is that if it's standing in the way of your success in life, it's probably time to grow up. Dreads are cool when you're in high school and college, or if you're a reggae star, or you live on a pot farm, etc. But if you're working for minimum wage and sleeping on a couch, cut them shits off.
The farms i worked at in nor cal shunned the dread heads. Some folks i worked for Didnt allow dreadies onto the properties. One chick wouldn't even let people with dreadies ride in her car. There's some paranoid people in them mountains boy.

being rasta is about letting go, mon
if u're getting dreads for the looks alone u're already doing it wrong. dreads aren't a style, being rasta isnt a style, it is a way of life, it just happens.
