how exactly did big tobacco induce lung cancer? was it chemical fertilizers, chemical additives, or maybe fiberglass filters? or could it be possible that maybe autopsies weren't being done for every citizen at that time? or maybe that that the us had just gotten done with ww1 and were smoking more, or that ww2 was just ahead and they were smoking more?

actually one company introduced asbestos filters in the early 50's

and even today autopsies arent done one everyone, only those
where it's requested and paid for by private individuals or by
some government agency

Neither. Along with ketamine, nitrous and dxm.. all those drugs are evil.

chemically treated tobacco is far more dangerous than natural
tobacco just as liquor is harder for your liver to process than
beer, in fact in moderation beer and wine are quite good for you

well, i'm pretty sure that from subjective experience, along with our good friend dare, that everyone knows that both substances are injurious to your health.

don't get me wrong either, i love my tobacco, i'll smoke 2 churchill sized cigars every day.

he, like the rest of us are simply stating opinion, like you
said here, "how you would quantify the damages associated with
both activities", for that we need to define certain things like
quantity considered as 'moderate use', how can we equate an
amount of tobacco to an amount of liquor

i'm pretty sure that's like apples and oranges, seeing how they effect different body parts. but if i were to compare, i would compare 1 beer to probably a little more than half a shot, to probably 2-4 sticks of non-filtered tobacco, depending on if we're going with regular brand or american spirit brand which packs more tobacco.

This is a good thread.

I say alcohol. I've seen it RUIN peoples lives, including those in my family. It takes away everything you could have been - if you let it.

Cigarettes obviously kill you, but they don't destroy the MIND in any way that alcohol does.

I agree there man.  My family is getting torn apart from it because my father is a crazy alcoholic. Hes got major depression and mood swings.  When i was younger although, he was the nicest guy on the planet and my friends all agreed on that.  Alcohol destroys the mind from what i have seen.  Back awhile, i remember he tried quitting and his mood drastically improved but then he went back to it in little less than a month and it all started back over, he hasent even considered quitting since.  I dont even know my own father from it.  My mother is in the process in filing for a divorce as we speak.  If you guys drink, dont become hooked, it seems like the worst thing anybody could do. A good drunkness although is nothing bad of course!  :alc:

I really have to disagree.  I'd much rather liver a shorter life with a keener mind than a longer life with a dull one.

Nicotine is a nootropic and neuroprotectant.  Ethanol is a toxic solvent.  Even if there are some other health risks involved, I'll take the nootropic neuroprotectant over the ludibund solvent.

True, but alcohol is really doesn't have the significant of an influence on your mind if done in moderation. Even just a cigarette a day, if done for many years, can shave several years off your life.

Haha worry not my friend, I don't judge. Cigarettes never made me relax, but if they did I'd probably still be smoking them.

Yeah I'm not a big tobacco advocate.  They helped with the stress of finals, but now that's over and I'm having a hard time cutting back/quitting.

I really think there ought to be more R&D into making a method of nicotine administration that lacks most of the health risks associated with tobacco smoke... or as Jonathan Ott suggests, new & improved nicotine analogs/congeners!

Well, topically applied caffeine has very recently shown to be tremendously effective at fighting skin cancer (I don't know if the group has published yet), and cannabis shows strong promise as an anti-tumor agent as well (though unfortunately it can't get decent study/funding done these days).  We're sorta making strides.

Alcohol is worse. Have one person drink a ton of alcohol in an hour and another person smoke a pack in one hour. See which one survives.

Why would you say that? Alcohol will cause permanent damage to a specific organ while the cigarettes will only cause temporary nausea, vomiting, low blood pressure which will force the person to stop smoking.
