I never really saw the point, since it doesn't really enhance life the way other drugs do. I occasionally will smoke a cigar, but since it's only every once in awhile, it's like being able to enjoy tobacco to it's fullest without any addiction.
Not that I look down at smokers like some people do, because I do think people should be able to make their own choices. I just never saw the point in it.
-------------------- The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

Smoking tobacco is pointless(just like twirling said) and there is strong addiction to nicotine. Shrooms are far more fun, don't cause cancer, don't make you cough, and are completely harmless(no addiction).

Besides (to me anyway) cigs taste horrible. At least smoke something that doesn't taste like...ughhh.
Then again there are plenty of people who will say that the taste is great.

Because of the placebo, some people swear that smoking shrooms makes you hallucinate.

Try smoking two packs regularly and you'll feel the cravings.
A friend of mine only smokes when he drinks. He tends to drink atleast once a week, and now gets cravings even when he's sober.
Drinking is also another trigger for me. Nothing like a cigarette while competely shitfaced

I'm allergic to most cigarette smoke, so that one isn't hard for me. I've had several friends try to quit for years with no success. Then again, my Grandma who had been smoking a pack a day for over 60 years quit cold turkey with complete success, and has been smoke-free for years now.
I keep trying to take up smoking, but my friends won't let me!
Best of luck to those of you trying to quit!

Some people say that it's impossible. If you smoke regulary and you suddenly stop, you can't concentrate, you get a headaches, and you can think only about smoking. Then you say "Just one last cigarette" and start again.Click here and read the experiences to see how difficult is to quit. BTW, you can't addict only by smoking 5 cigaretes.

most people who get addicted to ciggeretes do so when they are young and dont know much better.
ciggerets are like comfort in a little stick. they make you feel better, and give you a little zip. its a drug just like anything else, and your bodys starts to need it, and when it gets it it rewards you with releasing those chemicals we all love that make us feel good.
its a terrible habit and i wish i never started, by the time 2004 is over i will have spent about $3,000 just on ciggeretes this year alone. that makes me sick.

I smoke about once every few months, but when I do, it's usually at a bar or a show with friends who smoke, and I end up smoking all night. I enjoy it when I'm drunk. I used to be a regular smoker until I got pregnant with my first kid. I don't have much of an addictive personality so it wasn't all that hellish to quit, but I'm glad I don't have to go through quitting again. UGH.

I don't have an addiction to them. I'll smoke sometimes when I'm stoned or drunk. I haven't gotten any withdraw yet, I think because I don't smoke days in a row. I can smoke 4 cigarettes in one night, and be fine going weeks without them. I've never tried smoking more than 4 though.

I've smoked cigarettes off and on for the last year or so, and so has my wife. She used to smoke when she was in her 20's, but quit after we met (15 years ago). She bought me some cigars last Christmas and that got us "started" on cigarettes.
It's a nasty habit. I don't drink alcohol, but sometimes she smokes when she drinks. We've been trying to quit, for good, but it is tough. I read the other day (Andrew Weil) that one needs to keep trying and eventually the resolve will overcome the addiction.
Obviously, it's very addictive. It's also a "bad example" for our kids. I don't mind hiding the occassional use of mj or shrooms, but cigarettes are hard to hide and offer a limited benefit. Yet, still, it is tempting.
By the way, we smoked Sherman's, which if you're going to rationalize the habit, are probably the best, being natural. But still, they contribute to so many health problems that it's not worth it.
Good luck to anyone else out there trying to quit.
Peace.

I struggled with trying to quit for 4 years.
Stopped smoking for the last 3 years, but got addicted to nicotine gum for a year or so.
I quit the gum earlier in the year, along with caffeine, alcohol & weed - all aided by enhanced body awareness during shrooming! The bald headed fellows have taught me more than anything that it's very important what you put into your body.
Not that I didn't have fantastic times smokin da weed! Nor begrudge anyone else's drug intake. As long as you know what you're doing consume what you want:)
I am fully convinced that the only way to quit smoking is absolute willpower.
Nicotine is a rotten drug. It had it's claws in me for so long, but now I'm free!
Anyone trying to quit - the only advice I can give is to view it as warfare!!

I smoke mainly to help me deal with my other addictions. I really love the act of lighting something on fire and smoking it, it makes me feel better. Plus it gives me something to do when I'm bored, which is a lot.

I'm a social smoker. I don't buy my own packs, but if someone offers one to me, I'll take it. I feel kinda bad mooching them off of other people, but it's probably what's kept me from getting addicted all these years.

I smoke almost a pack a day. Got introduce to them by friends, didn't smoke much for quite a while. My problems really started when I could buy them myself when I turned 18.
Bad addiction, but it offers me a release sometimes. Great when I drink and offers a little boost if I smoke some herb. It feels nice when I'm on shrooms, too.
Plus, I don't like the prospect of living in a nursing home. Hopefully I'll kick the bucket before then.

I enjoy having an addiction.
Sometimes I enjoy waiting to smoke more than the smoking itself.
Depriving myself makes me stronger.
All pleasure is just buildup and release. Since addiction fits this pattern, it could be considered a pleasurable thing in itself.

I was a smoker for 12 years, it was seriously hard to, I contemplated it for about 2 years. Finally I got the flu and bronchitis and since I was already mentally prepared for it, I finally did it! Today is my 3 month anniversary since I've quit. I'm done for sure. The best part about quitting smoking is how much cash $$$ I'm saving... Including stopping at Tim Horton's for coffee, or at 7-11 for a slurpee, gas and such, being a 1/2 pack a day smoker (in Canada they come in 25's) I'm saving approx. $400.00 per month! Giddy UP! P.S. ~ I truly LOVED smoking

Some how I think this is why every smoker enjoys a ciggerette. Think about it. Your building up the need for a ciggarette with the stress and chaos of the day, when you smoke that ciggarette and release all that build up the stress and what ever else was pent up releases it self with it.
On a side note, I've been smoking for a year and recently decided that I need to quit. I've had 2 and a half ciggarettes in 2 days. I'm not dieing yet.Wish me luck!!
Its not so much as a "I want to" thing as a "no money and poor health" thing.

I smoke about a pack a day. I just picked up smoking when i was 17 because its just something to do when your bored. When your driving light up a cig, bored just light up a cig,
I just smoke to kill time. Plus a cig after a meal or when you first wake up is like a little taste of heaven.

I started chewing tobacco at 14, I didn't do it heavily untill I was 16. I started smoking more when I got into smoking pot, I decided to quit at 19 and made it 4 months but I slowly became a smoker. I'm 23 now and can easily live with one smoke a day and sometimes none but I always end up caving in and buying more when I get some cannabis or beer. I'm trying to quit right now but I'm not sure how much faith I have in myself.

ya i am weird - i smoke them because i enjoy it! i enjoy blowing out the smoke, inhaling, holding it, i dunno - oral fixation? i also smoke bc of the people i'm with - i can easily refrain from smoking infront of certain people for any amount of time.
it's usually when im just not kept busy - or when im too busy and i need a break.
i've easily quite for months on end w/o 1 cigarette - it's easy enough for me to quit but im not ready to.
