rolling cigarettes

If you smoke.. do you roll your own cigarettes? Probably only like 5% or something of smokers roll their own, based on my observations. It's usually the poor ones, like me. Or the smart ones, who don't want to contribute to the filters on the ground everywhere, or want to save money.
But seriously.. if I buy a pack of cigarettes. It's gone in 24 hours. Sometimes I can make a pack last 2 days, if I am the only one smoking them and I stretch them out. But I almost always bum out cigarettes to just about anyone who asks for one. Based on cigarette prices now (average of $4 a pack).. for someone that smokes a pack a day - that's about $1500 a year.
I've been rolling my own cigs for the past 7 or 8 months now and its done me well. $4 will buy me a pouch of american spirits that will last me 2 weeks. Plus it's just organic tobacco.. none of that cyanide, arsenic, chemical combinations in most cigarettes. One of my rolled cigarettes will burn for about 15-20 minutes (unadalturated tobacco burns slower than chemical soaked tobacco, and I roll them tight). Thus I smoke less. I will only smoke about 7 rolled cigs a day. 10 if I am chain smoking. You can't really chain smoke rolled cigarettes anyway.

meh.. most of the people who say american spirits taste like shit are the ones that smoke either: camels, newports, or marlboro. American Spirits taste like tobacco... because that's what they are. Nothing but tobacco. I smoke the organic kind. I know people that dont smoke, who cannot stand the smell of normal cigarette smoke. However when I smoke american spirits, they say it doesn't bother them at all.
If you would like to know what is in your 'normal' cigarettes - here is a list of the 994 chemicals they add "for flavor and even burning" to most major cigarettes- http://www.blowingsmoke.arizona.edu/web%20articles/chemicals_cigs.htm

I myself don't smoke but everyone I work with does. And we work right beside a smoke shop (I mean cigar type smoke shop). When they raised the cig tax a while back by like .70 or something several people I work with started rolling their own. They didn't raise the tax on loose tabacco. The smoke shop next door gives us all deals. It is like $1.50-$2 for a bag of tabacco (don't know brands) compared to the $4-$4.50 for a pack. And the bag is equivalent to about 1.5 packs. So you get a great deal.

nope I didn't forget.. see my last post. I gave a link that lists all the chemicals most cigarette manufacturers put into their product.
And Smushroom.. according to my calculations.. a pouch of tobacco is equivelent to about 10 packs of cigarettes, not 1.5. My pouch comes with 50 papers (that's 2 and 1/2 packs) and I always run out of papers way before I run out of tobacco.

i'm ashamed to say i only bum people for cigs since i DON'T want to own a whole pack... i know that the second i let the idea of actualy buying a whole pack i'll be hooked (as i probably already am) and that would not benefit me in any way! i'd rather smoke weed once a day for the smoking addiction and not for the stone then smoke a pack a day!
BUT i did buy a pack of drum rolling tobbaco when i was still at the army (and maybe a couple more when i got out... for the hash, though taking bong hits with rolling tobbaco is much more harsh on the trought (SP?) and that made sure i wouldn't smoke too much cuz it took me a while to practice how to role a good cig (i kept thinking how many joints i'd role once i get out of the army) i thought about buying some more becouse i'm getting sick of bumming cigs but i still prefer it over starting a dependency on tobbaco (i smoke like one cig a day... even less... though i smoke a hooka at work)
anyway rolling cigs are much better though i'm not sure health wise...

haha.. sounds like you already have a dependency to tobacco. I don't know how better they are health wise. It's a wash. On one side, you aren't inhaling 990+ chemicals, 25 of which are known cancer-causing carcinogens. On the other side, you are smoking filterless cigarettes, so you get more tar. But if you use filters (as stated above - 100 for $1) Then I don't see this being a problem. Although when it's all said and done. I would rather smoke filterless organic tobacco than filtered tobacco with deadly chemicals in it. Once you smoke pure tobacco for a while, you can taste those nasty chemicals in regular cigarettes. It's like smoking for the first time all over again.

i don't know how physicaly addicted i am but i enjoy the act of smoking too much (it relates to good things in my expiriance which is a bad thing!)
i don't know what will happen once my situation changes it can go either way... either i start growing my own weed and won't need tobbaco or i'll cave in and be another stupid smoker?
smoking is bad!

that's what they say. but I enjoy it, so I'm going to keep doing it I'm not going to worry about dying over it either. IMO if you smoke, you should enjoy it. If you smoke and worrying about dying because of it, then you should not smoke. at least I can say I'm not inhaling cyanide, arsenic, alpha-Trimethylbenzyl Alcohol, Phenylacetic Acid and whatnot in my cigarettes.

Well I should add (not that I havent already said it 50 times) that the most dangerous part of cigarettes, is the chemicals that they add to them, not the tobacco itself. (25 regularly added chemicals, the basis for many cigarette companies "flavor" are all KNOWN CARCINOGENS) They also often add extra nicotine. These cigarettes are designed to addict you, and make you only buy their brand (each brand uses a different combination of chemicals for different tastes), and ultimately, kill you. For a list of these chemicals, look here - http://www.blowingsmoke.arizona.edu/web%20articles/chemicals_cigs.htm Most of those chemicals are things that should never be consumed by humans, let alone combusted and inhaled into the lungs. Why they let cigarette companies put poison into their product, when ephedra and things like that will be illegal.. I will never understand.
Tobacco in and of itself is not all that harmful.

so does anyone vaporize tobacco?
I've toyed with the idea of buying some "organic tobacco" (where do you find it? I heard there's like imported shit that's even safer and doesn't have radioactivity in it) and vaporizing it to try a new high.... but you know... more addictive than heroin
is it only more addictive than heroin becasue of the shit they put in it though? Or is normal organic tobacco just as addictive? Sometimes I'd like a heady euphoric focused high (i assume that's what cigs are like, i've taken a few drags but never enough to get that buzzed) instead of a spaced out relaxed foggy high.

I don't really know as I got addicted first to normal cigarettes and didnt start smoking organic tobacco until two years ago or so for the first time. I don't imagine they are as addictive, since I only smoke 7-8 a day (compared to a pack or more of regular cigarettes) and they add extra nicotine to regular cigs, to make them even more addictive.
You can find 'organic tobacco' at just about any tobacco/cigar shop.

Yup I roll my own but here I seem to be able to only find drum or players tobacco and I go with the drum. If anyone in this area knows where to get american spirit or any other organic tobacco, help will be appreciated.
Oh and one question, do rolling tobacco's (like say Drum) have the chemical shit in them as the other normal cigarrettes? Or even if you buy rollling tobacco, you have to go organic to avoid that nasty stuff.

I can't speak for drum.. but I know that all 'natural american spirit' tobacco is devoid of any additives. The only difference between the normal american spirit and the organic, is about 50 cents more.. and it's organically grown.

I used to have a tin of American Spirit organic blend. I liked it, but I like the taste of the tin of Geronimo I have right now better. Organic American Spirit always seemed like a real heavy smoke.
As far as the taste goes, Camel lights are my favorites.

My old roommate used to roll his. He had this little roller and his own filters, it would roll a perfect one every time. They were damn good. American Spirits are pretty good too, but I've been smoking Parliament Lights lately, the P Funks. Mmm....I'm going to go burn one right now.

i've been rolling my own for a couple of weeks now because i just can't afford the filter ones anymore... i roll them with filters, tho so i dont get any tobacco in my mouth... and i have found that it has oly advantages... tastes better, is way cheaper... the only possible drawback is that you get yellow fingers from them... but well... and i have to say that rolling ones own cigarrettes adds a lot of style to the situation...

i got my self a bad of drum for about 10USD last night and i have to say i've let my self down... as predicted in this thread i've been smoking much more then i'm used to since i've got it... i've smoked 6 already and i'm thinking of rolling another right now just out of boardem... just becouse i've got some tobbaco around...
i wonder how long this is going to last... hopfully this is not the start of my giving up and just admitting my addiction
BTW the SECOND i opened the bag and the smell hit me i had a VERY vivid memory from the time i was still in the service it was winter (in the desert) and i was sitting outside the clinic with a fresh glass of turkish coffe and a rolled cig holding the warm glass in my hands and taking in the melancholie feeling of that place like a warm blanket... such a nice memory form such a pointless time of my life... it's amazing how smell can trigger such powerfull memories!

I used to smoke Camel Lights, but then i bought a pouch of American Spirits and started rolling my own. I only have to take like 3 or 4 hits and i get super buzzed... almost like someone slipped some stress in it or something...
