I suppose it is better to have a handful of countries have a favorable view of the US that none at all, regardless of how irrelevant those countries are.

Perhaps you should actually look at your posts.  About half are PLUS.  France Germany and England show huge drops in this poll and yet they elect leaders who are more generally pro American.  How do you explain that?

No, child, it means that about half (of a selected sample) are still positive ( I know you understand what above 50% means) and then there is the ugly issue that the three important negatives (England, France and Germany) actually VOTED more pro American candidates to their primary leadership positions than their oppsition.  Funny that.  Canada too.  Welly well well, what a conundrum.

It's a poll of the people, not the leaders?  I am pretty sure that the French people don't elect Presidents based on their stance towards the U.S.  Just like I don't vote for my President based on his stance towards France.  Complicated, huh.

No, child.  You see, you're moving the goalposts so you can win your argument.  No one claimed that a majority of people in the world dislike the U.S., just that Bush damaged world opinion.  But, since you cant cope with empirical evidence supporting a claim you disagree with, instead you just change the argument to suit your position.  You are wrong.  Face it.

It's not indicative of a consensus, it's merely an anecdote from a student of diplomacy who has had a wide array of contacts with individuals from many different backgrounds on several continents. I'll leave it at that. However, the poll I posted before that clearly showed the US' waning popularity WAS indicative of a consensus. But I suppose that the unsubstantiated opinion of 40-something blowhard whose only experience with the outside world is the bile he reads on right-wing hate sites would command more credibility than statistics. Naturally.

I changed the quote above, just a bit, to show the... um, bias... of your statement.  We are all fairly guilty of posting the many humorous stumblings of various politicians... I don't think anybody is picking on Obama more, or less, than any other elected schmuck.

It is interesting to see the vigor with which people defend their pet politicians.  Zappa has experienced this first hand, having been on the receiving end, after bashing Ron Paul.
