dissappointed with mushrooms effects on music
    #8476328 -

so ive been an avid fan on how marijuana enhances music, developed a deep liking for jambands like phish and the grateful dead and the like. bands which i had zero interest in before smoking weed.

so anyway, i know lsd is associated with the grateful dead and i suspected it would enhance their music in similar way to how weed does, albeit hopefully even more so. but i dont have access to lsd, so i knew shrooms were similar and tried those instead.

but, where was the music enhancement? are shrooms and lsd totally different in terms of music? because when i tried listening to phish (songs i absolutely love when stoned) it sounded all distorted and just like noise to me on shrooms. i could hear every note by itself but my brain was not processing the song or harmony at all. there was no enjoyment in listening to jambands.

i then didnt know what to do and the closed eye visuals were scarring me so i decided i had to keep my eyes open and i just sort of felt like there was something i needed to do but i couldnt put my finger on what and then the trip ended. it felt like a waste to me, like i wasted the mind expanding potential.

anyway, am i wrong to associate mushrooms with the grateful dead? is lsd a whole different thing in terms of music?

i realize there is a lot more to psychedelics than just music enhancement but music is very important to me.

All trips are diffrent. I mean ive had trips where the visuals completely sucked but I could bend music with my mind (If you know what I mean). Just because you didn't have any cool experience with music this time doesn't mean that you won't another time. Next time up the dosage to help you reach your goal. (PS: I notice when I do LSD and listen to people talk on T.V it sounds like there stuttering)

IMO, a small dose of shrooms is best for music enhancement. At higher doses, and by that I mean an 8th+ (for me), I find shrooms can be really confusing and make things seem like a jumbled mess. On 2-2.5 grams though, shrooms enhance music so much.

However, I think acid is the ultimate music drug. On the comedown of a strong acid trip, music is the most beautiful thing in the world. I've cried many, many times after an acid trip because the music I was listening to was so beautiful. During a strong acid trip, music just gets intense as hell. I don't know if I'd call it 'better', but I find it really integrates itself into the trip, and can even influence the course of your trip altogether.

My experience with shrooms makes me like things that are more upbeat...very different. Like brass jazz...stuff like that. I would try listening to more then just a couple of things. Try listening to a ton of things lol

Go for it, I have a deeper inner connection with string and horn instruments when on mushrooms.

I remember being in DARE when i was much younger and some of the stories they would tell you are not only ridiculous, but completely untrue. One story was that a woman was on LSD and thought her infant was a turkey so she baked it in the oven. Now I look back and think thats hilarious, but at the time I guess it scared me.

I noticed this as well, I took 2 grams for the first time recently and didn't get into music much. Not that I even really expected to, just an observation. In fact, some songs I usually could listen to I had to turn off because it just wasn't working for me. All of my LSD trips have made music sound amazing though, as well as lots of other stuff i've taken... but LSD is the best that i've found so far for enhancing music. I think mushrooms probably have the potential for that, but maybe you just need to be in the right mood, i don't know.

i don't remember, each song seemed like it took forever because of the time dilation. i tried listening to other music too, the beatles, other classic rock, the only music which seemed to fit the shroom state was strawberry alarm clock. but i only had a few songs by them and they didn't last long.

anyone listen to strawberry alarm clock on mushrooms? 'm positive they are one of the few 60s bands that was into mushrooms.

For me lsd is by far the superior music enhancing drug.

It just makes the music seem like more of a moving and living organism. I see the connections and interaction between the musicians, and feel the raw and usually undefinable emotion that they convey together as a band(especially bands like phish or mmw, because the are all about "it" whatever it is). (I think they are from another planet)
I am mainly talking about bands that are all about improvisation.
I can see the music, and feel "it".
If you take a whole lot of lsd though, the music is like a psychedelic shape shifter and the effects can tear the song to pieces, leaving the song hollow aside from the EXXXXXTREEEMELY interesting audio visuals that really leave you wondering about shit that is hard to think about or explain.

With mushrooms the music takes on a weird cluster of vacuums effect. The phrases become highly emotional for me. and the music is just really intense, colorful, and almost anything you could want from music.
I dont think it readily offers new was of looking at music the way lsd does.
If offers new ways of looking at music, but its geared more toward the emotional, rather than the divine complexity of music in general.

Thats just me though.
I think shrooms will impress you in this way eventually.
Tripping tends to get a little bit more involved after the first few trips.
I dont think lsd will disappoint but your a noob.
It gets alot better for alot of people.

Gillespie loved shrooms.

Coltrane loved acid.....alot.

Ill bet you will feel differently over time if you trip every once in a while.
I dont think you will understand what im talking about the first time you take lsd either, although you might.

At this point lsd has the upper hand, because you have had you first psychedelic experience.
Its just the beginning.

i have to agree here
lsd is the most musical drug i know, besides weed,
but weed gives it more of a hazy and delayed feeling,
whereas on lsd it seems, that sound is processed more slowly and you notice subtle changes more
sound just seems a lot more complex
also, it takes on that synthetic, electronic character, but in a good way
that's why i love electronic music, doesn't matter if sober or tripping, it's just the type of music, that suit s my trips the most
LSD = electronic music for me
and you can even make simple music very complex on lsd, if you want to
you kind of interpret new hidden messages into the music

mushrooms make me dance like a crazy motherfucker
i jump around like if i ate magic mushrooms
but music actually takes on a more simple character
that's why i prefer to listen to faster and simpler stuff like hardcore/tekno/drum'n'bass on mushrooms
and to more complex, flowing, minimal acid-trancey type of stuff on lsd, and i invented a kind of dance on lsd,
that i still practice now, be it sober or not
kind of square dancing, my feet and my hands move synchronised in a very staccato way
but it only works for electronic music above 150 bpm

by the way, yageman, after you mentioning phish a couple of times, i watched phish playing fluffhead at woodbury ski and it's amazingly beautiful, although i usually do not like this kind of music so much
i didn't like the other ones so much though

Your right but its odd you should say that the music you listened to while on shrooms didn't seemed enhanced at all.

with me, while I'm on shrooms music becomes EVERYTHING. literally everything, depending on what son I'm listening to it changes the direction of my whole trip and also changes my emotions, feelings and connection with everything around me. thats what i love about it... one of the best experiences Ive had while listening to some really upbeat music on shrooms was when i was sitting in a small forest are with two friends and the trees began to ripple and breath in time with the beat... very cool

i suppose everyones different though, Ive never taken acid so i couldn't comment on how that affects music but for me... on shrooms, its amazing.

LMAO I know exactly what you are talking about. Me and my friend call it checklist when we are tripping. Because we get stuck in a loop thinking we have to do something but we dont know what it is. Hence why we use the term checklist haha.
