Peat moss or coco coir.

OK so i was going to do a 50/50 casing of coco coir and vermiculite.

But every one saying that coco coir is bad for a casing.
So i decided Im going to use peat moss.

Am i making the right decision.?

Also is there any certain brand of peat moss i should buy. And do you know where i can buy it from.

I would have searched most of this but this knew shroomery thing is weird i cant find the search bar.

coir and verm works fine their all just freakin crazy.... gotta lot of people trying to make coca coir as a substrate which workes great. (mostly cause you got alot of people afraid to put their hands in poo. but it can be used as a casing without a buffer or ph strips... 60/40 verm coir is a perfect casing mix

Although I don't really see the point of making my own casing material I highly suggest using the peat

Coir is very nutritious and is  however actually my favorite bulk sub due to its ease of use:thumbup:

I used coir as a casing and it colonized pretty good. I now use it as bulk sub like blutjager. I recently joined the "use peat for casing, use coir for substrates" wagon.

can i ask you guys a question ok i seen some peatmoss its like the only one we have in town it said enriched with miracle grow plant food will that work. it still looks like dirt

its likely not going to be as good as plain peat moss. but it probably will work alright.. If you post the actual #-#-# someone might be able to tell you.

yea thats it man. W8 so wtf am i doing if i had moisture control thats all i need for a casing wow o well looks like im stuck with peatmoss.

IM making like 3 casings 1 with coco coir one with peatmoss an other might be str8 verm.

w8 w8 w8 my doesnt say liquid on it it just says enriched with miracle grow not liquid. i even did a taste test i dumbed some in water an tasted it and it tasted like dirt water

I happened to have some of the moisture control miracle grow soil layign around, can you help me out with directions on what the proper mix would be.

xparts soil/xparts water. Also do I need to mist that just like a regular casing. Ah hell if you have a tek with this can you send it to me.

i'm not blutjager, but i hope my advice works just as well :smile:

I would mix enough soil and water to reach "field capacity". That means you can grab some and squeeze it, and a few drops will come out, NOT A STREAM, but about 1-4 drops. It should fluff back up and probably soak in those drops again.

Fan and mist like usual. I do 4-5 light mists morning and night. Seems to work good.

You can use the MGMC you have and follow this tek. TEK

Coir isn't bad for a casing when mixed with verm.
A lot of people are just sticklers for the "non-nutritive" part.
But I've done 50/50 coir verm and it turned out fine. Check out the pic in my sig, that was with a coir/verm casing.
