Corporations and the govt. are made up of people. When you steal from them, you do steal from people. Out of sight out of mind I guess....

That is a gross over-simplification, my friend.

That's not stealing.

We're talking about taking physical items from one's possession.

torrenting stuff seems like stealing in my eyes....

not saying I feel bad, just saying that you are taking something the has a copyright and is owned by a group or a person without paying

+ the OP was talking about from corporations/government, not a specific person's possessions

i dont feel intellectual property is that big of a deal unless it comes to stealing it and putting it forth as your own work or selling it.

that's bullshit, but for personal consumption/enjoyment/screening/etc.. it's fine by me.

they mark up prices so people can do that shit anyways.. if you didn't do it.. the prices would be inflated for nothing.

Downloading stuff online, as well as reception of satellite feeds, is accepting virtual information that's already present.
True theft involves the victim having experienced a loss of some kind.

if its not theft then why do torrent sites get shut down and people get warnings/sued for downloading pirated goods?

I'm just being devil's advocate here

as an under paid slave (im a bike messenger that doesnt even hit minimum wage) i have the chance to roam around the city to go into loads of corporate stores so' s not to go into one all the time. i have a nice big messenger bag thats over one shoulder. i sewed cloth to the part that touches my back so i can just easily slip shit in.

Loss of profit is an abstact concept.
There's no guarantee that they would have made said profit.

Torrent sites are shut down because they want to cut off any threat to the possibility of them making more money.
They're not losing anything.

Downloading files is actually making copies of files remotely.

left hand technique is rad. get like a bottle of OJ and nuts and food and keep this in your left hand below the counter, then in your right hand, have a lime and a dime, pay for the lime and walk out with a nice thank you and a smile.
