HEY FIVEPOINTER, I LOOKED AT SHIT FROM THE BIBLE!!
    #7838178 -

Pslams 82:6
"I said, "You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High."

John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name

John 10:34
Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'? (I believe he's quoting the 82nd Psalm)

John 10:35
If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came and the Scripture cannot be broken

John 10:36
What about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?

Obviously Jesus was about realizing the divine within. But if pentagram fivepointer would love to point out what I'm missing here then I'll happily goto sleep.

But you miss the point of modern-day Christianity. It is about DISEMPOWERING you now and promoting something wonderful much later on if you kiss ass to certain self-proclaimed human representatives as divine interpreters.

The phrases you picked out are about guilt-free self-empowerment and that negates any need for human authority and we can't have that! :nono:

Golly, I don't know. Christianity doesn't sound like a religion that would institutionalize guilt as a virtue.

Psalm 82
1 ¶ <<A Psalm of Asaph.>> God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
6 ¶ I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

The Psalm refers to the OT nation that had all the official offices of God and the Word of God. The term "gods" is referring to the official representatives and commissioned agents of God. God is saying they have not made right judgments, have not brought salvation, and will be judged and fall. Christ came and judged them inherited all nations. This does not refer to the "divine within" at all.

John 10
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

Christ is accused of blasphemy and is making the argument that if mere frail mortal men, and some of them wicked men, being made rulers and judges in the earth are called gods, by God himself, to whom the Word of God came in time, and constituted them gods, or governors, but for a time; and this is a fact stands recorded in Scripture, which cannot be denied or disproved, then surely it cannot be blasphemy in Christ, to assert himself to be the Son of God, who existed as a divine person from all eternity; and was so early set apart to the office of prophet, priest, and king; and in the fullness of time was sent into this world, to be the author of eternal salvation to the sons of men.

That's quite a story. I don't know if you've ever taken a foreign language but you'd see the words "The" and "A" aren't clearly defined as in English. For the daodejing there's over 70 translations because chinese can be interpretted so many different ways. In Latin and Greek, "A" and "The" don't have their distinct, clearly translated meaning. From Aramaic, the new testament was translated to Greek, then from Greek, none other than monarches/tyrants took over the bible. What I'm saying is the Bible has gone through many generations to finally come to your eyes and it's the the simple edit of changing I am THE son of God compared to I am A son of God to change the whole interpretation

Romans 8:14,15; Galatians 3:26; 4:6
I am a son of God; God is spiritually my Father

1 Thessalonians 5:5
for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;

One more thing....

Quote:

I don't know about you but since when did God need a hierarchy of coworkers?  Commissioned agents of God?!  c'mon now, please put 2 and 2 together and tell me this Christian outlook of God is something of a corrupt CEO running a phony business that advertises itself as something "you need" to be happy.  Shit the only thing they gotta do is make bibles and talk.

ya know I don't think there's anything wrong with any religion, because I know that in the beginning they weren't nearly this fucked.  But, Western Christianity really kicks the bucket when it comes to being all about One individual who isn't a part of you until you accept that person.  Then you must goto Church or read the Bible to get the Word of God?

This thing that you call God is way bigger than what any preacher could preach, any Bible translation can be read, or any of us could try to convey.  One thing I love about this board is that when someone has an outlandishly crazy experience.. they can't describe it.  They try and come up with the vaguest, yet most accurate, description that our "limited" language will allow.

I love Jesus, but I also love Krishna, Buddha, umm I guess I should love Muhammad too, Lao Tzu and so on.  I'm confident to say that none of them are any more magnificently divine than anyone here on this board. I'm most certain Lao Tzu and Buddha never claimed divinity.  They've realized, while the state has institutionalized.  And institutionalizing is the anti-realizer.

ON THAT note, one more thing.  I have a friend who's a devout christian.  He goes on and on about the bible then is like a sex fiend.  He's nearly 22 and has dated 15 and 16 yr olds!?  But what, is this ok as long as he confesses and goes to church and reads the freaking bible? oooh don't worry, nothing like getting rid of guilt by reading the bible.  So he's in town and I'm sitting in the back seat of his car and there's a book titled How to control your sexual urges through God.  The fuck?  Are you kidding me?  If the church could do anything worthwhile for it's umm "SUBJECTS" then it would teach them that they don't need to be so reliant upon them!?  And to find the power through themself, not some book that says "through Jesus you can do it" but instead to credit the damn individual!

I used to be a fucking drug addict rolling on E every fucking weekend and doin coke like it was my job.  sure I smoked pot every day but that's not really anything tremendous.  My first trip on shrooms blew my mind.  Just wow and I'll say this "self-realization"  Not quite to where I am but it had kicked my ass.  After that day, I quite all my shit(drugs) and destroyed the fuckign SATs, won states in my sport(it's an individual sport so I'd like to credit myself.. and my coach   )  and got into a great freaking college.  Now if I replaced "My first trip on shrooms" with I found Jesus then I could be a speaker at NA and AA meetings!  But ya know ppl would say I'm crazy, but something about crediting some figure-head that makes it all work and easier for ppl to swallow.

The word used in the Psalms' sentence is 'elohiym, and it refers specifically to divine beings.

When Jesus later quotes that phrase, and talks of being the son of God himself, there is no distinction in what is being meant by "son of God," the word theos is used for both descriptions.

A rough, literal, translation is something as follows:

epo eimi huios theos
I am son God.

ei epo ekeinos theos pros hos logos theos ginomai kai graphe ou dunamai luo
If said/spoken them/they God/deity, regarding whom word God came into being through, and scripture cannot be broken

I don't know why this was moved, "Religion" has been removed from M&P.

Spiritual and religious debates belong in P&S...
