I just witnessed a robbery/assault (totally disappointed in myself)

I was riding my bike along a busy thoroughfare.  All of a sudden I heard some young kid yelling, "You want to steal?  You should be proud of yourself".  I start looking around to see what's going on.  I see this guy (let's call him "Perp") walking out of a drugstore.  Perp has all of these razor blade packets in his hand.  Then I see an old guy (he looked like the store manager) following after him.  Perp had stolen a bunch of razor blades and was trying to leave the store.  It took a few seconds for my brain to process what was going on. 

I stopped my bike and I saw the store manager grab Perp by the arm.  Perp turns around and clocks the guy.  Perp looked to be about 25 and the store manager was about 60.  I got kind of pissed at that.  I was about 20 feet away from the whole situation at this time.  I strongly desired to go up and punch Perp but I thought better of it.  Perp looked to be about 230 pounds (seriously...what the fuck are they feeding people nowadays that make them so big?).  I'm brave but I ain't stupid.  I implored a guy standing next to me, "Let's go kick his ass".  If we had joined forces we could have probably hurt Perp.  But, he didn't appear to be very enthusiastic.  So, I decided to call 911 instead and I watched as Perp walked right by me.  I figured that a group of cops swarming all over Perp as they maced and beat him would teach him much more of a lesson than I could. 

I followed Perp to make sure he didn't get away.  Right then a cop came around the corner and told Perp to stop.  Perp was like, "I didn't do anything blah blah blah".  The cop proceeded to throw Perp to the ground and threatened to break his hand.  Other cops rolled up and they were like, "This guy again!".  I guess Perp gets in a lot of trouble.  The cops were definately abusing Perp in an illegal manner.  Huge officers were intentionally and maliciously stepping on his feet trying to break them and stuff like that.  But, I didn't feel bad for him because he deserved it.

I gave my name and number to the cops.  They said that Perp will be charged with robbery, assault, and resisting arrest.  I will probably have to testify.

In this whole scenario I give myself a C-.  I didn't have any weapons on me but I should have definately busted out more badassness.  I wish I wasn't such a munchkin.  :sad:

Size doesn't matter so much, as determination, and lack of fear. I've seen puny little guy beat the living day lights out of big guys, just because the little guys didn't give crap about getting beat up.

Ah well, at least he got what he deserved. To be honest with you, I wouldn't have fucked with a guy 100 pounds bigger than me either.

Yeah, I'll be honest if I see some huge guy who's desperate enough to blatantly rob a stored in public, I'm not going to fight him. That's asking for more trouble than it's worth IMO.

So you called 911, followed the guy until he got collared by the cops and volunteered information. You did not get hurt, the guy ends up in custody. Sounds like it turned out well.

It did turn out well.

But, I have been doing a lot of pushups lately and just itching for some action. Action presented itself to me and I did not take advantage of it. That kind of makes me pissed at myself. But, in my defense I am literally as big as one of Perp's legs.

Even though the pigs got the guy, if it goes to court make a point about the excessive force used by the pigs.

Other than that; I wouldn't of jumped in their either.. you could of ended up with an assault charge yourself if you smacked the guy., you did the right thing..

If you jumped the guy you could've been liable for assault and a law suit. Also the criminal motherfuckers are usually crazy in a fight. I'm 6'4 and about 250 and even I would think twice about throwing hands with one of those crazy motherfuckers. You totally did the right thing, don't even trip. The fucker is going to get charged and got roughed by a bunch of uber-aggressive pigs much better than you could've. I give you a A- and the only reason you get the minus is for not kicking the guy in the face while the cops had him on the ground.

to make a living, criminals have all the rights, victims have none.

The cops were telling me that Perp has been arrested a gazillion times and that he has a history of retail theft. He's probably going to go to prison because of the robbery thing. If I can put the final nail in the coffin at this scumbag's trial then I'm down.

you did the right thing for the situation, if he came running for you head on,
your actions would have been much different, you could have had worse than a
little nose splatter and at least with that you could go collect on your warranty

you did get the warranty didnt you?

I can't believe I just didn't do anything. I've been in fights before so it's not like the whole process is foreign to me. Maybe it was because neither me nor my friends were being threatened that I didn't get that, "I want to kill this guy" feeling.

I saw a young hoodlum hit an old man and I did nothing. Even if I got whooped I needed to do something. The more I think about it the more ashamed I get. I'm not going to post for a while.

I don't deny that he probably deserved it, but the police; which uphold the law, were blatantly abusing their power and breaking the law by doing this shit to the guy.

If they carry on getting away with unnecessary force (aka brutatility) it will become a more common thing (not that it isn't already).

We (well you; I'm not american) pay their wages; surely you want a police force upholds and respects the law.

so an old man got popped, he's been there before too, did you check to see if he
was alright? kick yourself if you didnt. but thats as far as you need to think it.
you did the right thing. no one was seriously hurt
