Very nice drying boxes. Well done kids, I might just have to steal one of these ideas. Thanks

hi all,

new to the forum, like ebonics, have only had mushrooms in amsterdam... (and mushroom chocolate i sent home from amsterdam... yes it passed customs! )

i can do spore prints on these and many more properly, however thought i'd pick them first and see if its actually worth heading back to where i found them. so any feedback would be great. thanks in advance.

found in the east of melbourne. no experience in picking, but am willing to learn  i see mushrooms popping up everwhere and i know to look for the blue but thats about it. on that note, if i were to squeeze the stem... is that a good way of seeing if they bruise blue?

sorry about the bad pics. was in a rush.

hopefully this is one... looks pretty bruised and blue. only one i found.

Specimen 2 appears to be a sub, i can see pretty predominant bluing on the cap. The others aren't active, the red one looks like a Stropharia, unsure of the others.

Try and keep this thread to confirmed finds only, if you need an ID post a thread in the main forum. It not only keeps this less cluttered but you will get a quicker response as more of the mod's will see it.

Just make sure you provide the correct info for an ID.

Heh, no need to be sorry im just saying you will get a more thorough and experienced answer if you post in the main forum. I only know Psilocybes, they will be able to identify the others also.

MM79, those spore prints confirm a Psilocybe dude. Im convinced the suspect stem colour is due to environmental factors rather than something else.

Cool! That's good to know. Thanks notorious.

I'll be going hunting again this weekend, and the forecast is for rain the whole week, so hopefully there is more to come!

Make sure its not a Hypholoma, they tend to have dark stems and when wet look similar to the bottom 3 you have there. They also print purple:

Unless they were the last 3 shrooms on the face of the earth i'd chuck 'em just to be sure.

this season has sucked for me. the spot that i go to has barely been producing any subs (where as last year it had thousands... too many to pick). i dont understand how it can be so full 1 year and then almost completely empty the next. i tried looking for a new spot and found an area that was full of pine trees and found hundreds of amanitas (they were literally everywhere... never seen so many) and several other types but not 1 single sub. this is south west of melbourne btw. does anyone else here hunt out that way and if so have you been having much luck?

Pine stands aren't necessarily good places for subs.

I guess your old hunting area ran out of nutrients, they don't last forever. Or maybe someone got there before you

Grow your own. It's far from difficult.

On that note, can anyone answer my question here...

I know, wrong thread, but I got NO replies...

Even anywhere in Aus is fine. I just want them soon.

Cheers.

What's going on, there hasn't been anything in this thread for ages. Is it drying up or are people just getting lazy?:D

i think there is just too much rain now and people don't want to get wet, am i wrong? also i noticed on the last hunt i went on, there were a heap of mushrooms, but most of the older ones had been rotted by the constant rain. In my experiences i have been more sucessfull when there has been heavy rain for a day or two, and then a few days of no rain.

lucky buggers, it's dry as all get out in my area atm and last years cyans have lost most of thier potency.

happy trails.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Hey guys,

Went for a good hunt on Sunday and came home with around 50 or so juicy subs, will post some pics when i've got them off this dig cam.. Some of the caps were about as big as 10cm diameter, beautiful...

On a side note, i have never had any luck finding subs in woodchips/mulch or in landscaped areas, perhaps i'm not looking in the right places, or the ones the councils destroy, but... for me it's always the kind of damp grass forest floor areas which have just the right amount of sunlight poking through to produce some fruits.
