Hibuki
I have to agree with shroomydan they do look like Strophs to me, P.Subs will always bruise blue somewhere on the Cap or Stem so dont worry about the orange/yellowish colouring.
Good Luck

Just a quick question comrades, is it passable that a P. Sub will already have blue bruising on it but when you bruise it yourself nothing will happen?

Hopefully that makes sense.

Peace

Yes that is possible, especially with older drier specimens.

Has anyone ever found subs growing in clusters? I found a patch in which they were all overlapping each other. I've never seen anything like it! I don't have a photo, sorry. They bruised blue so there is a fair chance they are subs...

Yeah man, all the time. This isn't the best photo, bit blurry but you can see how they are all bunched together. I found about 20 growing off the same bit of tanbark once.

That's pretty similar to what I'm talking about, Notorious!

One question everyone... I found some Damprid in Safeway and Kmart but on the packet it instructs you to fill the container supplied with water and place the Damprid crystals in a compartment on top of the container and wait for them to dissolve into the water... what the? Is this the right kind of Damprid? Should I just use the crystals by themselves? Also, what should I contain the crystals in so they don't go all over my mushrooms??

Sorry about all the questions. Any answers would be appreciated.

black ones [Re: hyperdimensional]
    #7097184 -

Golly, I'm finding them popping up everywhere! I have now decided that the best way to find em, is not even to look. I grabbed this lot today just because i was so intrigued with the intense 'blacking' of the ones at the top. I thought maybe it could be a result of the heavy rainfall i think we've been receiving lately causing them to oxidise. There were many more just like this lot. What do you guys think of the 'black' ones??

The black specimens are most likely rotting. Not likely to cause you any harm, but might be lacking in psychoactive properties.

I suggest spreading the more rotten ones in a suitable spot close to home. Works very well in my experience.

Could someone please answer my above question about Damprid? It would be handy if I knew the answer by tomorrow morning. Cheers!

It shouldn't tell you to fill anything with water, stick the crystals in the black strainer supplied and when the crystals attract water they will dissolve and drip into the area below.

hey Hyper, I know what you mean, I could only find the damp rid refills too. So I made a makeshift strainer myself; get an aluminium apple pie tray, or something similar, and poke some holes in the bottom. Then fill it with the damp rid and place it on top of a bowl. As the damp rid attracts the water it will filter through the tray and into the bowl.

Hope that made sense.

And Hibuki, A piece of advice may be for you to look in areas that people, and their dogs, aren't likely to go, reserves are good but I don't know about local schools and parks.

I had luck looking in areas with wood mulch and usually near a water source such as a creek. Maybe have a look in the melway and plan out a day trip checking out areas you think might be suitable. Good luck dude.

So in regards to hunting in melbourne, i should be checking reserves and not local parks?

If so, where should i be looking in reservers? Open area grass? Near a fence line? Near bushes?
It's really hard to find something, when you don't really understand what your looking for. :frown:

Look for areas where the ground is strewn with mulch, whether that be woodchips or eucalypt leaves. In reserves, you might have to go off the beaten track a bit, amongst the bushes where there is plenty of leaves strewn across the ground.

I have been searching for about 2 months now, and it took me quite a while before i located any spots.

Anywhere with a man-made garden bed, woodchipped/mulched areas etc.

Wherever you see these its worth stopping and having a look.

Parks/ovals/reserves/schools anywhere with a mulched garden bed.

Second type categorically NOT what you're looking for. The first type APPEAR to be subs, but I'm not game to give you a 100% positive ID.

A spore print definitely helps. The things going for it are that the cap is correct colour, appears to have some blue staining around rim, stem appears white even though there's brown discolouration near the ground and there doesn't appear to be a veil like seen on Galerinas. I'm no expert but know what to avoid.

Is the blue reaction more pronounced in the flesh than in the photos? The pics are a little blurry.
