Niiice haul man.

What is it with subs and pine needles, they always seem to have much much longer stems than from woodchips.

Yeah I was certainly shocked to find the difference the first real woodchip subs i found. They have much meatier stems and bulbous caps.
The biggest mushrooms by far though seem to be in old growth Native forests. Got them in the dehydrator now.

Happy hunting

If by the mycelium being attached to the strands of the shrub, you mean the roots, then thats mycorrhizae. The plant roots benefit from the extra surface area of the myc.

No the myc wasn't attached to the roots of the plant,it was growing directly off the shrub's leaf strands..I will post the video clip tomorow it isn't very good quality coz it is from my phone

Just wondering if you guys could verify a mushie I found today. Been reading you posts and keeping my eyes peeled. Saw this and a few other growing in wet tanbark, this one was picked about 4 hours ago and i crushed the stem to promote blueing

Is this the right kind?

also how many of that kind of size do you reckon i would need for mild-medium dose? (coin is a 10 cent peice)

cheers

Don't know what they are but they are not subs.  Awesome color in the stems though.

Hey bloke it looks like you have a P.sub there congrats. The dosage is a little different everybody has varying metabolisms so it is hard to say,if I was you I would start with 10 shrooms then go from there, work your way up with what you feel comfortable doing.................ENJOY

Thats shocking advice - if I ate ten medium size subs it would be all over for me for a fe hours, and I'd probably not want to try them again.

Start with 3 then see how you go.....

You can always eat more, but you can not take some away after you have eaten them. 3 or 4 or more than enough for a first timer, and if after an hour its not - then eat more.

hi everybody,
i'm a complete newbie to mushy hunting, but have been wanting to get out there this season. i've been reading through the posts trying to absorb as much as possible. i like to know what i'm taking :P

whilst walking to the train station this morning i saw a few shrooms popping up which kinda looked like subs. i went back this afternoon to pick them and noticed about 15-20 pins popping up aswell.

anyway, this is my first post and first ID request. the photos i've taken are the best i could do with the shitty camera/lighting.

location: found in those black wood chips you see everywhere, i guess they are just rotten. the spot didn't get much sun as it was almost under the platform.

colour: small ones = dark brownish. bigger ones = darker in the middle, lighter on edges, lighter brown.
*** sorry about the colour descriptions, i'm colour blind with reds/browns/greens. so as you can imagine it's all brownish..

stem: were reasonably white when picked, however have since discoloured. im not sure if it's the "blue" i'm supposed to be looking for... they were also hollow with a white ring on the inside.

spore print: still waiting..... had to take the glass off to take a photo and couldnt see anything as yet. perhaps the lightest tinge of purple...

gills: dunno what i'm supposed to be looking for here :P

hopefully i've provided everything (except the spore print, which will come) for an ID :P

cheers,

mmm...

The blue change indicates it's at least an active and I'm with _OttO_ don't chew down 10 of them, start small and work up man.

You take cood clear photos, I think just to be sure go back and get some good, clear habitat shots showing the speciemns growing, and some more specimen shots after you get home and post them to be sure before you eat them.
