Sumatran Volcano cubensis - Indonesia 2

In north Western Indonesia, on the island of Sumatra, lies a 'Super volcano' that is alleged to have changed the Earth's atmosphere when it erupted around 75,000 years ago, called 'Lake Toba'. It's the biggest lake in south-east Asia, and the largest volcanic lake in the world! (Very interesting read, LINK)
Being close to the equator, it's very tropical, with plenty of BUFFALO (which means plenty of shit!) -
The area is inhabited by 'Batak' people, the tribes people of the area, with their own 'unique' style of housing and art. They have a history of ritualistic cannabalism and still retain a strong sense of culture to this day (though I don't think they eat people anymore, but who knows?!). Here are some examples of a traditional ( and some what intimidating) Batak style house (you wouldn't want to mess with these guys!) -
And a village style collection of dwellings -
These are some examples of Batak style art -
Now Indonesia appears to have little in the way of legislation covering mushrooms, (actually little in the way of anything resembling a normal strucure of laws - here, money talks). In the tourism areas, mushrooms have become a business oppurtunity for the locals and are advertised on literally EVERY restaurant and guesthouse menu and sign board -
Some fresh cubes from the laundry lady!
So I asked the lovely laundry lady for some tips on where to start hunting and she gave me a mud map to her secret patch - which was out of this world considering how people feel about their personal spots, but indicative of the incredible nature of the Batak people...
So we hired motorbike, and set off on our quest. After we found the area which looked to be suitable, hours were spent running around searching the beautiful scenery.
First finds were promising, what I believe to be some very large Panaeolus antillarum?
I also found some small specimens that looked like they could be in the psilocybe genus. Any body have any clues?
After some heavy rain and taking shelter with a corn farmer, it wasn't looking very promising. We headed out for one last look when the rain died off, and stumbled across our first cube -
Followed quickly by a couple more -
It wasn't a big haul, but we at least we managed to get a few prints so this strain can live on. I like the idea of cubes originating from the largest volcanic lake in the world!
Hope you enjoyed the adventure as much as we did....

Indonesia is off the hook, you should definitely pay a visit if you get the chance! Did you know it has the worlds fourth highest population, and the highest population of muslims?

Hmmm, muslims, and fungi...
But seriously it seems like it would be like mushroom heaven to just rome around there for like a week or two.

When you get to understand the real muslim faith, you will see how beautiful it is and like anything - its only the fundamentalists that ruin it for everyone....
Mushroom heaven is sums it up! I've got a heap of pics to put up yet, wait until you see the panaeolus snaps...
And the best thing is if you get bored of hunting mushrooms, you can go snorkelling with the turtles!

That was my guess, but they are growing in a tropical climate - I thought coprophila prefer cooler temps.
