Ron Paul should be The Shroomery's choice for President! Check him out.

About Ron

Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the "one exception to the Gang of 535" on Capitol Hill.

Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have 17 grandchildren.

While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul's limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. In 1976, he was one of only four Republican congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan for president.

During that time, Congressman Paul served on the House Banking committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve's inflationary measures. He was an unwavering advocate of pro-life and pro-family values. Dr. Paul consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending and regulation, and used his House seat to actively promote the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.

Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th congressional district of Texas. He presently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.

Congressman Paul’s consistent voting record prompted one of his congressional colleagues to say, “Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers' ideal of the citizen-statesman. He makes it clear that his principles will never be compromised, and they never are." Another colleague observed, "There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few."

Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress.

Senator Paul is my first choice so far. I predict the LP candidate to be a complete letdown. Especially if it's Doug Stanhope.

Ron Paul is a decent choice. I can dig it. But the BEST choice is Kucinich

http://kucinich.us/

http://kucinich.us/issues/marijuana_decrim.php

Also, big warning on the Libertarians, from on economic standpoint they are very far to the right. Abolishing the minimum wage is one of their positions as well as privatizing EVERYTHING. That Paul ran on the Libertarian ticket is a little scary. Don't get me wrong, he'd be a huge improvement over what we have now, but that extreme attitude of worshiping the private sector is silly and dangerous.

I hope the Repugs go with Mitt Romney because the hardcore fundies will not be able to stomach a Mormon and then some far right-winger like Buchanan is bound to pull Nader and go off third party pulling votes from the Republicans giving us a greater shot a more liberal government. That's why I say get Kucinich in there. With Kucinich as the Dem. nominee there will be no need for a Green candidate or whatever. The Dems can united behind a candidate with a real vision for peace and change and ending the drug war all this bullshit. Anyway, I admire where you're coming from with Ron Paul. He is the best Rep candidate easily but I maintain that the man we need to support is Kucinich.

As soon as I saw the (R) I almost stopped reading, but this guy sounds like the extremely rare Republican I might actually vote for. We need more solid dudes like him in all levels of the government.

I saw Kucinich in a couple debates and he upholds a lot of my liberal standpoints, but I don't think he's a statesman. It's sad that people won't vote for him because in many ways he reminds me of myself if I were in politics.

War on Drugs has abused Bill of Rights .
Paul adopted the Republican Liberty Caucus Position Statement:

* As adopted by the General Membership of the Republican Liberty Caucus at its Biannual Meeting held December 8, 2000. WHEREAS libertarian Republicans believe in limited government, individual freedom and personal responsibility;
* WHEREAS we believe that government has no money nor power not derived from the consent of the people;
* WHEREAS we believe that people have the right to keep the fruits of their labor; and
* WHEREAS we believe in upholding the US Constitution as the supreme law of the land;

1. BE IT RESOLVED that the Republican Liberty Caucus endorses the following [among its] principles:While recognizing the harm that drug abuse causes society, we also recognize that government drug policy has been ineffective and has led to frightening abuses of the Bill of Rights which could affect the personal freedom of any American. We, therefore, support alternatives to the War on Drugs.
2. Per the tenth amendment to the US Constitution, matters such as drugs should be handled at the state or personal level.

Rated A by VOTE-HEMP, indicating a pro-hemp voting record.
Paul scores A by VOTE-HEMP on pro-hemp legalization policies

VOTE HEMP is a non-profit organization dedicated to the acceptance of and free market for Industrial Hemp. Industrial Hemp is non-psychoactive low THC varieties of the cannabis sativa plant. Currently, it is illegal for U.S. farmers to grow Industrial Hemp because it is improperly classified as a "drug" under the Controlled Substances Act. Since changes in law require shifts in thinking and this requires education in the facts, our primary goal is the education of legislators and regulators, farmers and businesses, students and other concerned citizens.

ground can use all the drugs they want without fear.

if it were kucinich vs ron paul, i think it would be a win win situation.

ima ron paul junkie. i cant get enough.

the only way he would lose would be due to un-informed voters. Anyone who actually follows the candidates knows that Ron Paul is BY FAR the best.

if he gets the nomination (crossing fingers), i think that he will beat Hillary or Obama.
