New Metal albums
    #6973763 -

Hi everybody, I just signed up today. I was wondering if there are any metal fans around on this board? Well I mean I'm assuming there must be a lot so I feel like discussing some new stuff. My all time favorite band is Iron Maiden. I literally am obsessed with them and I've seen them numerous times live. They never get old to me.

Anyway I'm currently listening to the new Sonata Arctica album 'Unia' like its my job. I think it's by far their best album because it falls away from the generic power metal sound they used to have (although I'm a fan of all their stuff) and they sound more progressive now.

I've also been really into the new Megadeth album 'United Abominations' although I think some tracks are a little dull, especially the redone Tout le Monde.

And finally some tracks off the new Dream Theater release are really captivating me lately. Although I'm not a huge fan of this band nor do I really care for going out of my way to listen to them, the more 'metal' sound that they're going for now is definitely more of my style and I think the new album is very different. Good shit.

Does anybody have any thoughts or opinions on any of this stuff?

I listen to some metal. My currently favorite artists, well the only artists I listen nowadays are Lamb of God and Necrophagist.
Necrophagist - Fermented Offal Discharge
Necrophagist - Intestinal Incubation

We have some great local bands here where I live. The now defunct Scobeys used to put out some brutal live music. Skrump is a step up from them and they kick ass too. I'll upload a couple tracks. This piece of shit quality mp3 doesn't do justice to their live playing. I wish they were still around. The bass player is in Skrump now.

I used to love 80's/90's metal, but it all sounds so outdated now...

Make sure to give bands like TOOL, ISIS, Knut, Pelican, and Meshuggah a chance.

ISIS and Pelican especially...

I thought it was getting released in August or something. Has the release date been pushed back?

You would probably like Mastodon - Leviathan

I'm sure you know Blind Guardian already...

Dragonforce - Valley of the Damned is a good album but I don't enjoy any of the others.

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone is a good CD, they're Doom Metal

I used to really like the power metal, my favorite by Sonata Arctica is Ecliptica

You should check out the doom metal genre though, it's similar to power metal lyrically but more heavy and slowwwwwww...

Metal rules. I like some...

Behemoth
Goatwhore
The Black Dahlia Murder

more death metal. I like their gore rotted gutteral vocals. Especially Black Dahlia

How bout GlassJaw. Those guys fuckin rock hard. I dont know if I would call it metal, but I love their ambient disharmonies with a slight touches of awsome harmonics and melodies.

i've heard alot of metalheads complain about sjr being too hardcore based for them. for me though, coming from a hardcore background, dare i say i like them better than pantera! both of thier albums are absolutely fucking incredible.

peace to the diehard pantera fans ahead of time tho. yes, im crazy. understand that i was raised on dk and minor threat and circle jerks and black flag and bad brains and such, so this sound appeals to me more.
