First album that made me realise how much I actually loved music. I first heard this when I was 12. I was 14, and after a lull of grunge and indie rock, I thought that that was all that existed... until one day my big brother came home from with this ripped onto CD. It blew me away, I've never since quite been blown away by a piece of music. The song "Air-Conditioned Nightmare" was the first I heard, and my god it changed my perception of music forever... I had to find more of this shit! Not Zappa himself playing it, but this was my 'step up' into the world of jazz. I first heard this at about 16 yrs of age EDIT sorry the pictures are huge

Hey Shroomism, have you ever listend to any Acid Bath? They're an awesome metal band from the south and their CD's will forever be some of my favorites. They have some slow songs that are just mezmerizing, definately check em out, they might be difficult to come across tho. And if anyone else likes Acid Bath then lets hear it!
Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops
Acid Bath - Paegan Terrorism Tactics
5 Shrooms for whoever knows who painted those 2 covers (2 different artists)

For me, about the only thing that truly 'changed my life' was a song rather than an album. I had no idea what sort of music I really liked. Then New Order re-released Blue Monday as the 1988 version. I found a copy of the 12" of the original in a second hand record shop and played it rather a lot. I proceeded to buy more New Order stuff which led to finding out people who liked New Order also tended to like Joy Division, Cure, Smiths, Depeche Mode etc. etc, and it all just went on from there... The first song I danced to with my wife-to-be was Debaser by the Pixies.

Living in northern wisconsin, I used to actually like country music...Ugh.
Then one day, a good friend came to school w/ The Doors. Morrison hotel, I think....Never looked back...

Smashing Pumpkins- Machina Not the greatest cd I ever owned but it was the cd that got me into music. I cant put a price on that.
Tool- Lateralus The album the got me into the surreal realms of life. It;s what got me researching drugs, seeing if I wanted to use them or not to expand conciousness. In all truly the album that changed my life in the most drastic way.
Pink Floyd- Atom heart mother- the most beautiful album ive ever heard

Kings of Leon's debut album Youth and Young Manhood. Since about 2005 most indie bands and wannabe rock and roll bands have come to sound suspiciously like KoL. This is one of those albums that people won't recognize as having changed the face of music 25 years from now...assuming reality hasn't been altered drastically by then...which it will have been due in part to this album and the type of consciousness it reflects. So yeah, go listen to KoL if you haven't.
