I just added an "alternative metal" section for stuff that doesn't really fit in another category. While some of those bands are technically, rock bands.. and most of them are already well known.. I think they are important to list.

Helstar is there... look harder (progressive metal) or should they be somewhere else? They are kind of hard to define.. somewhere between speed metal and neo-classical.. so I just put them in progressive.. hrm.

The only metal I can sort of enjoy is pop/alternative metal like Metallica and Soundgarden, and Scandanavian epic metal like Nightwish and Therion. Oh yeah by the way, did you guys hear about the former Pantera drummer getting shot on stage at a show the other night?

the Guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott was shot AND killed last night around 10:15. Vinnie Paul was fine, he walked out on his own.
Metallica wasn't pop when they started. Kill 'Em All - ... And Justice For All. That ain't pop. Or alternative. It's thrash at its finest

Guitarist... my mistake.
And you're right about Metallica. I guess I'm saying the only reason I got into them is because they became popular, like Soundgarden, and a lot of people were listening to them in the 90s.

Yeah, I feel ya 'brother, Metallica.. meh, too bad I was a wee bit young to remember Metallica well in their glory days, 'cause I hated everything after Justice. Really, i'm personally a Cliff Burton man, but Jason was a killer bassist and he fit the shoes REALLY well. Rob though, meh, Rob isn't Metallica material if 'ya ask me. He's a great bassist, backed some of the best and played with the best(and currently plays with the best), but his image and whatnot just doesn't fit IMO.

I'm literally still tearing over Dime's death. if i could credit above anyone else(god & jesus included) any single person i've never met who have changed my life, it would be Zakk Wylde & Dimebag Darrell. When I read what happened last night, I could not sleep. I have not slept in quite some time. I'm not in the least tired either. my god, i'm actually pissed the gunman's dead. he's lucky I couldn't have gotten my hands on his ass, though. his death would be ten fold dime's. and then some.

i saw Cannibal Corpse in your list, but what about Chris Barnes(CC first vocalist) band, Six Feet Under? their new album, bringer of blood, is a good one, "Amerika the Brutal", on of the best death metal(if it can be called that) songs(i'm mostly referring to the lyrics) i have ever heard. other than that, your list is supreme oh, and Dimebag's death is horrible news, bastards like the gunman should be exterminated at birth.

What would you consider Grind metal? Any band that I can think of that would fit under that category would fit better under Death metal imo.. but if you can come up with enough bands I'll probably add it.. I was going to add a black/avant-garde metal section tonight anyway.

Dude you totally left out "nu-metal" (god i hate that name lol). But anyways, Mudvayne Killswitch Engage Slipknot Disturbed Korn (eh, maybe too TRL) Lamb of God (maybe) ...to name a few of the many. RIP Dimebag edit: note that i left out linkin park, limp bizkit, deftones, papa roach, etc. because that would go under the category "pussy-ass bitch metal" lol.

alright.. I admit I've been avoiding adding nu-metal (god I hate that name too).. but a lot of people seem to like mudvayne and slipknot and whatnot so I guess I have no choice. (I admit I haven't given nu-metal much of a chance) haha.. but fuck linkin park and all those fucking nu metal clone bands. I'll get on it in a bit. Also grindcore or whatever. haha.. I could add "suicide and murder metal" like bethlehem, and exhumed, and all those bands.. but I think they suck. Oh.. whoever mentioned Six Feet Under.. I totally forgot about them. Incidentally, I met Chris Barnes when my band (Skultamaphon - would be in the progressive metal section) opened for Six Feet Under last year. They are some cool dudes.. smoked a giant spliff with us backstage. It's funny too.. he's the nicest guy you could ever want to meet.. then he gets on stage and starts growling like a demon from hell and headbanging those 3 foot long dreads.

heh... have you even listened to that much metal? I have tinnitus (constant ringing of the ears when you permanently damage your eardrums from violently loud decibels) compliments of Slayer, after seeing them for the 7th time.. The moral of the story: Wear earplugs at metal shows if you can, and don't stand next to the PA speakers blasting 150 DBs. Especially for Slayer or Anthrax.. they play loud as fuck.
