its unfortunate that there will never be any more windmills by the ocean albums.
The Gersch is another good band with Bryant Clifford Meyer of Isis in it. Its a lil more Black Sabbath-ish with some nice riffs. oh, and they have no bass player, just some low sounding guitars.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gersch
From their myspace: (http://www.myspace.com/thegersch) "Ashes were trampled into the Earth, and the blood became as snow. No one would ever know that my lord's people had lived at all. life and death... the same. Only the war masters would teach them. It's not the length, it's the Gersch..."
that will tomorrows first upload.

everything you posted from Isis to Windmills by the Ocean to Beware of Safety was great stuff. Anything else you'd recommend with a similar sound?

You should upload You Are There by MONO. That album is fantastic. It feels like all the sorrow and beauty is passing through you via the speakers. At least that's how I feel when I listen to that album.
Dysrhythmia is another good band. I recommend the Barriers And Passages album. Also Envy; check out Insomniac Doze. Not sure if you would like these guys, but Agalloch are quite good. They're a folky black metal band with a fair amount of avant gardeness going on there. They have lengthy epic songs and a lot of more acoustic orientated songs. I recommend The Mantle by Agalloch. Don't know if anyone recommended Godspeed You Black Emperor; I suppose they are more rock, but they deserve a listen. Check out their f#a#OO (that's meant to be an infinity symbol on the end there) album. Did anyone mention Pelican? Australasia is a great album. Check out some Ozric Tentacles also. I'm not that familiar with their work, so I can't recommend their best album, but pick one. I'm sure they're all equally good. Might be going out on a limb here, but check out Ulver's album Blood Inside. It's the sound of a black metal band that got bored with the genre and started dabbling in everything they could get their hands on. It's certainly an interesting album. Don't know if you've ever heard of Between The Buried And Me, but they recently released a rather prog influenced album. There's a fair bit of screaming in there and when they kick into the metal, they really go for it. But a lot of the album sounds like a mish mash of the 70s prog sound. It both rocks and trips you out. On the rather heavy side, check out ISOR's album Post Mortem Peep Show. A rather weird mix of heaviness going on there. They are a 2 piece band from the UK. Farmakon are fairly good too. I like their A Warm Glimpse album. There's a good local band from NZ that I really dig; they opened for Isis and they were a perfect match in terms of that sound and feeling. 99% instrumental too. They are called Jakob and I recommend their album Solace. May be hard to find that one is it's a NZ band and I'm not sure how big they are outside of this country. Dunno about this one, but have you checked out Opeth? My favourite is their Orchid album and it's a very good mix of heavy and light. Very damn epic too. Can't believe no one didn't mention Sleepytime Gorilla Museum (either that or I missed it). Check out their Of Natural History album. I can verify that this album is suitably intense on a trip. I love the lyrics too. Definitely avant garde these guys. I recently found this amazing one piece band, Caïna. It's what you'd called extremely avant garde black metal. No corpse paint or screaming about Satan here. Just swathes of black tinged electronics/ambience. Probably the best album I've heard this year. Check out their album Mourner. The older ones are more traditional black metal. Flat Earth Society are a jazz based band. A weird one at that. The review I read for them described it as music to rearrange old people's synapes to. Check out Isms (they don't have much else material sadly. that is a collection of their songs). Fredrik Thordendahl's Special is insane. Side project of guitarist from Meshuggah. Certain songs sound similar to Meshuggah, but it spins off into far stranger territories. He only released one album and it's called Sol Niger Within. Hella have some interesting work. Check out There's No 666 In Outer Space. Kayo Dot is the continuation of maudlin Of The Well's musical concept. Choirs of the Eye is a truly epic listen. I highly recommend this album. YOB are a doom/stoner metal band with psychedelic touches to their sound. My fav album of theirs is The Illusion of Motion. Insanely heavy as well with huge build ups. Naked City is what happens with jazz meets grindcore and various other musical genres thrown into the blender. Check out their self titled album. It will make you laugh. John Zorn (Naked City) also was in Pain Killer, which is much heavier than Naked City and is far more chaotic. Much closer to grindcore than Naked City (Naked City only had smatherings of it here and there). Pain Killer can be an unpleasant listen
OK, that's it for now

Im goign to be uploading two .mp3 full albums. i condensed a few whole albums into one track for trips. they are:
Tephra - Tephra 45:02 Great Post-Metal from germany. they have a new album out just as good as their first. http://www.myspace.com/tephramusic
Battlefields - Stained With the Blood of an Empire 33:58 http://www.myspace.com/battlefieldsdoom i actually saw these guys live and talked to the lead singer/sampler/electronics. really cool guys from Fargo with some powerful music. if you want to go from beauty to disgusting, light to dark, this band is a great listen. its a short 33 min album, but they plan on a full release soon. and man, when i saw them, it was a real intimate experience, they played with no stage, and i was like 2 feet form them, i could hear the vocals from the mouth more than the mic. and the CD does no justice to their live sound, so much LOUDER!

here ya go, the Gersch, as promised. this is less avant-garde then the others i have posted, and would prolly be put in the stoner-rock genre nowadays, but when the band was writing and performing(1994-1998) it was very experimental for its time. In fact, they said they clear the room their first show:
"Debuting at O'Briens in Allston in 1995, The Gersch cleared the room with the first song of their set - the 15 minute, funeral dirge "Cheapskin", which, unfortunately, was never recorded, but, fortunately, changed the lives of the 3 or 4 people who sat through it."

M TELLING Y0U GUYS...I HAVE 14 DAYS WORTH OF MUSIC, ALL GOOD SHIT.
here/hear is mouth of hte architect, another band i was able to see live. they border isis in song wiriting, but not in style. MotA i s much more 'hardcore' sounding, but it also has plenty of non-vocal interludes and trippy parts.

This is MONO's album You Are There Captured to tape by Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studios in Chicago, IL, You Are There extends the cinematic drama of 2003's Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined (also recorded by Albini), while surpassing the sinister heaviness of 2002's lauded One Step More and You Die. MONO disproves the myth that an increased focus on intricate song structures and string arrangements comes at the expense of youthful energy and inspired aggression. With You Are There, MONO's representation of tragedy comes with an inherent joy, delivered with the hope that in all dark there is equal parts light. They're not heavy like Black Sabbath - they're heavy like Beethoven.
