i'm really digging it lately.
first started listening to Isis a couple of months ago and i'm just now getting into their other albums because i've been hooked on Panopticon for so long.
the lengthy songs, the unconventional sound, the energy!
two cds by Neurosis are next on my list.

Try Pelican. Similar to Isis but without vocals.

i recently got REALLY big into isis, too. panopticon is fucking genius. i own all their works with the exception of the live album. just got an 8" of red sea in the mail not too long ago. in the abscense of truth is awesome, but i keep finding myself coming back to "celestial" as i find it to be my favorate album by them.
i can't make any recommendations based on sounds similar to isis as they seem to be in a league of their own, but i can tell ya some interesting stuff to check out:
sleep - dopesmoker (must have) torche - self-titled jesu - silver (must have) jesu - conquerer jesu - self-titled om - conference of the birds (unreal. check the mp3 i uploaded on this forum of "at giza") boris - pink
WINDMILLS BY THE OCEAN!!!!! (contains members of ISIS! absolutely AMAZING!!)

excellent middleman!
sunn o))) is totally my personal meditation music. if i've had a hard ass day, i toss on some sunnn, preferably grim robes or altar (w/ boris) and let the worries of the world melt away and i become hypnotized by the drones.

Altar is definitely an intense listen, but a lot easier to stomach than most of SunO)))'s own releases heh. Some of Boris' releases are equally unpleasant.
Yakuza are damn good too. A very mixed bag.

i agree. i wish they would record another album like pink. such a bomb dropper! pop? possibly yes. garbage? i think not!
i got the boris/merbow collab on yellow/green vinyl not too long ago. quite a rendition of i am the walrus. the flip is equally mesmerizing.

That's not too bad, sort of sounds like a mix between Corrosion of Conformity(vocals) and Meshuggah(sound and off-beat time sigs)....
I gave a listen to ISIS and Pelican.... I couldn't get into either one of them.... I guess I am just more drawn to the intricate melodies and the multiple riff arrangements of progressive metal....
It's all good, it's music....!

Check out maudlin Of The Well. I personally like their Bath album. They disbanded some time ago and some members moved on to form an avant-rock band named Kayo Dot. Also great!
If you love Isis, check out Red Sparowes and Explosions in the Sky. Both instrumental bands.
btw, I'm new here, so.. hello!
