I'm wondering if the spirit/soul/energy ( you name it ) is the same thing as the mind set. Because from what I see you view the soul and it's possible reincarnation as a continuity of your mindset.
I think that there's a difference between the mind and the soul, even if they work in a symbiotic way as we live. We were born with our mind and it's existence had merged with us (as in with our soul) and I think that's the reason why we can not discern the difference between the two of them.
So what we tend to do, from what I observed is to identify our entire selves only to the mind matter.
Are we just our thoughts (our character construction), or is there more to that? From what I see we have the tendency to think we are only our character... we go thinking ohhh I am this because I do that and I look at life in a particular way. And for some of us that's enough to make us believe that we fully know who we are.
For instance, if we chose to have one thought about something we also must keep in mind that we chose this thought from a multitude of other potential thoughts.
Then when we gather more thoughts, some of them transform into patterns which in extent become our personality.
This leads me to the conclusion that, given the multitude of thoughts we can chose from at any time in our lives, we could still be "us" even if we choose other thoughts and therefore form/could form a different personality.
It is possible to think differently if we do it consciously. That way we become aware of the infinite potential of what our personality could become.

By considering all these matters that I've stated earlier, I'm having a hard time believing that it is our mind/mindset/personality which reincarnates (if there is indeed reincarnation).
To go even further with my thought, there are moments in which I feel very aware and able to see beyond the behavioral patterns and mindset the we all have, and then I feel like there's really nothing more to differentiate "me" from the rest of the people.
