My parents caught me smoking weed on a few seperate occasions (found lighters and pop can pipes, I was a careless punk :cool:) When they finally sat me down and talked to me about it, I told them everything just to get it off my chest, Shrooms they didn't seem to have a huge problem with because it was natural and I explained the health effects and such. They only flipped out over ecstasy (no pun intended) because it was a dangerous chemical, unknown side effects, "holes in the brain", etc..

I pretty much talked to them calmly and explained all my points and the self-exploration involved and they were relatively cool about it and just said to be safe, be smart, never drive.. The usual parent thing. :thumbup:

I didn't actually tell my parents. It was more like they asked and I confessed.

At that point I had already done acid plenty of times in their house without their really catching on or anything. But then I had this kid stay over at my house and we both dropped some cid. I was pretty sure I made it clear to him that my parents didn't know about my hallucinogen use. In spite of this, he apparently thought it was a good idea to get up and take a shower at 4:00 in the morning in the bathroom right by my parents bedroom.

I tell ya. Spot Blowers! They fuckin' suck! But it's probably for the better anyway. It kept me from ever having to bring it up. These days they don't know the details or extent of my psychedelic use but what they don't know won't hurt 'em.

I actually ended up confessing to my mom but my dad has no idea:

First off, parents are divorced and I'm much closer to my mom.  I live with my  mom and sister when I'm home (currently in college)

My mom and sister were preparing to have an exchange student live in my room for two weeks.  My mom decided to go into my room without asking and snoop around for shit that she said "she didn't want the exchange student to see".  Sure enough she finds condoms and two books on psilocybin mushrooms... one of which was a growers book.

She called me up that day and started asking a million and one questions and I just answered them honestly.  She was glad that I was doing them responsibly but obviously wasn't thrilled that I have been taking them.  The furthest she ever went with drugs was alcohol and the occasional pot. 

Point of the story:  Some parents are cool (open-minded) and then there are others that had no right raising a child in the first place.  Can you guess where I stand on the issue? :tongue:

You know your parents and you have a good idea how they'll react.  Act accordingly.

Just my opinion and people will provably tell me I'm wrong, but if your living with your parents and they would disapprove of your drug use you shouldn't be using drugs. If your on your own paying your own bills, then if they would have a problem with it just don't tell them. I recently got divorced and moved back in with my parents for a few months. My mom has a no drugs/alcohol rule, she knows what I do on my own, but her house her rules thats just how it goes.

I havent told them that Ive taken psychedelics, but I talk to my parents about them all the time.

Ive tried to introduce them to "Doors of Perception" and ive explained the gist of "DMT: The Spirit Molecule" to them. Im intested in both Anthropology and Psychology and I guess they figure it has something to do with that. But baisically I started slowly, and have not told them about my dabling into psychedelics.

I definetly plan to, and believe that since I have discussed my views with them on the matter, they will accept it, and I know they will still support me financially through my university career etc.

But right now they are not ready, they still have this view that "DRUGS ARE BAD"

LOL, although two days ago my dad was going to a plant nursury, I asked him to check out a cactus called Lophophora Williamsii for me to see if the nursery had it. Of course, he came back, and, the nursery folk gave him a talk about it, told him it was illegal (idiots..not in Canada, dont know why they think that)

He was VERY cool about it, it didint surprise him to the least that I had him on the hunt for some psychedelic cactus.

But still, theyre not ready, Id reccomend slowly starting to talk about psychedelics with your parents.

Yeah, I had to spill the beans when my mom found a transaction from columbia on my credit card. (back when she was co-listed on my account and she could check online) She naturally assumed that it was cocaine because the place that I had bought from also sold coca plants. Once that accusation came up, and it was pretty strong, I just had to inform her that it was actually a cactus powder with mescaline from Peru. I would much rather my parents know that I was making mescaline than think I was doing coke. Since then, they are pretty cool about it, it took about a year for it to kind of settle in. I talked to my mom recently and she is pretty much only concerned with my getting caught. She has told me about some of her mushroom experiences and both of my parents are huge dead-heads so I know they did the stuff in the past (My dad has told me stories of him doing medical-grade coke the dead shows) They just really don't want me to get caught and lose opportunities. My parents aren't happy with their jobs and want me to be able to have a good job later more than anything else. My dad always just brings up that I shouldn't do coke when the conversation comes up. Getting caught is a legitimate concern, really. They never bring up bogus health risks or anything like that.

My dad still hasn't really told me about his experiences tripping though. I think I am going to try to have that conversation with him at some point this summer. I'm interested to hear what he has to say. He also says that he would smoke week and has occasionally in the past few years but just can't live with the potential consequences to his family if he were to get caught.

I'd be able to trip with my parents if it were legal. It's gotta change.

lol, yes, many people it would assume so, but I can guarintee you that my parents only think I talk about this stuff. They think im an angel, its very funny.

Does your mom look like someone who would be a hippy, or is she like suburban housewife looking? I just can't imagine seeing my mom trip or get stoned. My dad (lives in another state but i see him time to time) smokes all the time, he believes in the medicinal qualities, and he's mentioned that he's seen my mom toke up like 5-6 times before, but i cant imagine getting high with her... Like she'll find my brothers pipes and stuff though, and one time she found the bubbler left out in the sun room during the winter and brought it in to him and told him not to leave it out because it'd freeze!

I couldn't say that my mom looks anything like hippy. I know she used to be a punk when she was young. Now she looks IMO just the way a regular mom should look like, although she wears some asian stylish clothing and jewelery from time to time, but not mostly.

I'd like to hear from Progfron about why he wants to come out about it. Is it guilt over not being all the way honest with them? As a parent, you may think it's funny but we don't aways want our kids to be so honest assuming it's something that can't hurt you like mushrooms or pot.

Be sure to tell them that it doesn't lead to coke and heroine if you insist on telling them. Please stress that acid, mushrooms and pot are non-adictive and you can't O.D. though you can flip out but don't mention that. You can get lots of advice how NOT to flip out from the friends and supporters at this site.
Another thing that may sound funny and PLEASE don't get on my case about it but you may want to ask a homosexual how they "come out" to parents.

You can get some really great marks on tests or other assignments, pile them up, present them on the table and then tell them. What's to aruge about then?

I think It'd be funny, but kind of cruel, to first say you're gay and when they freak on you say...naw! I just do acid once in a while in a safe environment and don't drive, just chill and listen to music. They may accept it just out of relief!

Interesting topic.

I can give you my perspective as the father of a teenager.

This will be a great conversation when you are thirty years old. You and your parents will laugh your asses off. They might share some stories of their own.

If you aren't thirty, just don't go there. It's too weird. I mean, if you can have a frank discussion with your parents about sex, go for it. ("Son, how did your date go last night?" "It was great, I got a blow job!" "Way to go son! Damn! Nothing quite like getting your dick sucked!") If not, why? Maturation is individuation. If you're old enough to make your own decisions, then make your own decisions.

Here, this is what your parents would say. Don't be stupid! Don't get arrested! Don't hop in the car if you're trippin! Don't get blasted out of your mind and decide it's ok to have unprotected sex! There, it's been said.

I hope I don't have to come out of my smoky closet. I'm pretty sure my parents know and never said anything. Mostly because my dad smokes pot all the time, and I have a sneaky suspicion my mother is becoming addicted to pain pills. Just be silly hypocrisy for them to tell me anything at this point, but they would probably be cool with it.

Telling my famliy about my use of psychedelics was the dumbest thing I've ever done. My mom had taken acid several times in her youth and I always really wanted to share what insights we'd had. I knew it had a strong impact on her. So one day I just let it all out. It was awkward at first and then it got really interesting, we both had had very similar experiences and such.

Fast forward a few months, I inform my parents that I will not be going to school anymore. It's a long story but life really started making sense to me and several of my friends in the most profound way and we decided we were going to go share our insight with the world becase NOW NOW NOW is the time. Anyway, long story short:

Fisrt, my mother one day called me in the morning on a day I happened to be sick and not very enthused to talk to her because they'd been hounding me about how I was fucked up from drugs and needed help (not the case at all). We talk about some frivilous BS and hang up. I go walking around town with my friends, I leave my phone at my apt. Suddenly my mom thinks I had gotten depressed and killed myself by taking an 'overdose' in my apt. She gets to freaked out that she calls the police in my town, 1000 miles from her, and informs them of this. Since I left my phone I had no idea any of this was happening, until the fucking police call my friends looking for me. I soon find out that the police had busted my door down after coming to my apt, seeing my car in the lot, coming to the door and finding no answer...here's where it gets funny...they called my phone, which was inside my apt...I wasn't there to answer it obviously; they can hear it ring inside and then they get to my voicemail, which I used a greeting of "hey it's 'me' I'm too depressed to answer the phone right now, please leave a message after the gunshot (a joke). Well they didn't think it was funny and it gave them reasonable concern to bust my door in. I believe at that time I had about 1oz mushrooms, 10 hits L, a grip of opium pod puddy, several grams of DMT, and even some mescaline hcl in my freezer.

I was terrified. Thought I was going to jail for sure. Long story short, nothing bad came of this. BUT...

Fast forward a few weeks. I was out of town visiting friends and upon returning to town discover that my fam dam is also in town. They say the've come to get my furniture, as I planned to move out soon. Long story short they's actually hired an interventionist and went into my place and found some inert Ayahuasca materials...which they turned into the police alledging I was manf. DMT. I was actually charged with this and now I have 18 months of probation to deal with.

Moral of the story: STFU.
