Vision magnified with marijuana

I'm relatively new to marijuana and being under the influence, so maybe this is a usual thing, but...

The last time I got high, I experienced some weird visual changes. I wasn't geeking out, I smoke a relatively small amount, but if I focused on something near to my eyes, it would become magnified. It was as if I was looking through a magnifying glass or something. Has this happened to anyone else? What's the scientific reason behind this? My girlfriend told me that my eyes were dialated, because I was taking in more light, could I see further? I don't know much about the human eye. Any kind of scientific information on this would be wonderful, thanks.

i have never had any visual shit happen off weed, and i have smoked my fair share of it, but i would think that if it was your eyes, it would not be your pupils, because they only let in more light, it would be your lens. But personally i think it is your brain doing its tricks.

For sure this is your brain. I was just talking with a friend the other night aobut the craziest stuff we have seen while on weed. For me, one of the most intense weed hallucinations ever was a slideshow of a cartoon taking place on the hairs of my leg. I was sitting up stairing at my leg hair for some reasoon and I swear to you that it looked as if every second or so somebody would comb my leg hairs to represent the next cell in a comic strip of some cartoon I had never seen. It was so crazy, but I totally loved it and just sat there staring at my leg for like 10 minnutes probably. I did not recall any specific details about the cartoons when I came out of my high, but I could only remember the process that had taken place. So yeah, smoke a little more if you like what you saw.

i went to the eyedoctor for contacts i had to get my eyes checked to see how worse they got...

anyway i was completely stoned when i went in and the doctor said my eyes were extremely better and that we'd need a less strong prescription.. he couldnt explain it

anyway now that im not high these contacts kinda suck and are very blurry but while i was stoned i could see perfectly... fuckin wierd...

When I first started smoking, I was around the age of sixteen. Our favorite thing to do was get high and play Super Smash Bros. Melee. I would notice randomly during our fights, my vision zoomed WAY in on a certain character for a little bit, and looked huge. I don't even recall seeing other characters on the screen. Reading your post made me remember that. It hasn't happened for a very long time, though. :frown: Weed use to FUCK me up.

My vision definitely sharpens while stoned. This is nothing to be worried about.

As for a scientific explanation...my knowledge in that area is very, very limited so I'd suggest maybe researching it yourself via google.com

different things happen to me when i get high, and i'm sure it depends on the weed - as well as how much i ingest. 

i was watching a movie once, and suddenly all the colors got bright, and the characters' motions seemed exaggerated.  another time the room seemed fixed in place, or false somehow... like a movie set or something, and i felt like i was crying but i wasn't.

well.. for an image to be magnified, the distance between your lens and your retina would have to be further..

as the object-lens distance decreases the magnification increases.. its a direct relationship (image distance / object distance)

Heh yay physics.. I was just revising physics as well.. I got a mock tomorrow.. its nice to see this stuff put to practical use :grin:

Welcome to the boards! This was the most profound visual change for me early on, and I used to joke about it with my ladyfriend (zoom in to these!).

Mentally, I think it partially has to do with how your perception of time is skewed, allowing more inspection of things in shorter periods of realtime.

There is also the physical aspect, of course. Someone was already talking about changes necessary in the eye. As we should all know, cannabis can be a helpful treatment of glaucoma. It's definitely doing something to the pressure inside your eyeballs and that might be part of it too.

Have you sat down to draw or paint something, if that's your thing, yet? Much recommended.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I'm really interested in the scientific aspect of my experience. Here's what I think could have happened physically. Either a.) my eyes were physically altered (whether it be pupils, lens, pressure, cones, whatever) or b.) somewhere between the electrical impulses from my visual sensors to my brain, marijuana made the image seem magnified. Has anyone read any scientific explaination as to what could have caused this? Does THC or whatever other chemicals found in marijuana cause physical symptoms like my lens become more 'tuned'--for example? Basically, I want to know the physiological reasons behind my high.... yeah, a bit too much to ask?

Like the first time I smoked pot I got tons of visuals.
Not like shrooms but more like, as you said magnified.
Also, everything went kinda black/darkish for a little bit.
I didn't pass out... I'm assuming that was the lack of oxygen from coughing.
o.o
But yeah, I don't think it would be uncommon, especially for someone relatively new to being high. :thumbup:
