Nope, in the UK, they bomb the subways instead.  Not that the US hasn't had it's share of idiot home grown bombers, but my point is that people will kill if they want to kill regardless of having access to guns or not.

Exactly

Anything can become a deadly weapon.

You can go right into your kitchen and cook up a bomb with household chemicals. Right down to your local gas station and get the ingredients needed to make a molotov cocktail. So on and so forth...

What difference is outlawing guns going to make, honestly?

The only reasonable solution to this kind of problem is to outlaw guns. I'm sure people could still use knives, but I don't think that anyone could kill 30 people with a knife at a college campus.

I have not read the whole thread, I just came across this incredibly stupid post about half way through and had to respond regardless of anything else subsequent.

I had the exact same experience you did.

I decided to reply to mr.kite's post instead though because it implied the same thing and was more fun to reply to.

Guns were in fact outlawed on campus. Anybody who thinks that outlawing guns will eliminate guns is a blithering idiot of almost criminal moronity.

Precisely.

Also if you (not directed at one person in particular) don't believe there is any gun violence in the UK (a country where guns are outlawed) you're sadly mistaken and living in a fantasy world.

Here's an example of shots being fired over a Harry Potter book dispute in Northamptonshire. Gunfire over 'stolen Potter book'

Here's an example where a UK girl was robbed at gun point near a subway in Durham England.. UK girl robbed at gunpoint

More recently a 21 year old London man shot dead in the street just last month "as London's gun-crime epidemic continues"... Man, 21, shot dead in street

My first thought after hearing that it went on for 3 hours before the guy shot himself in the face was also, "Why didn't anybody stop him sooner?"

However, I was thinking more along the lines of the image I saw of dozens of police and SWAT teams standing around outside hiding behind their cars and trucks for hours.

I thought SWAT teams were trained to go into buildings where psychos were shooting people up with guns, and take them out.

Were they all to busy digesting donuts or in sugar comas through it all or what?

I haven't been watching much of the coverage at all. Of anyone who has been, has there been ANY mention of what the SWAT teams outside were doing/not doing over the course of hours?

This is all I found- SWAT team members with helmets, flak jackets and assault rifles were seen swarming all over the campus.

I just sent off a ridiculous tax check to pay for more government incompetence and waste.

So, we pay for SWAT with our taxes to swarm around the danger, but not to go into the danger and take out the cause of the danger.......I see :bored:

A swarm of bees is harmless until they start stinging the shit out of you. Kids came out after the first shooting and were able to describe the guy with the gun and where he was in which building. 2 hours went by before the second round of shooting occurred. SWAT trains for and gets paid for this sort of stuff.

Well, I wanted to throw them into the mix since nobody else mentioned why they were useless in this situation.

Same with Columbine. Not a police officer or SWAT team entered that school building either.

Can anyone explain to me the strategy of hiding outside and waiting for the shooter to come out to put massacres happening inside of buildings to a stop?

Did they run out of tear gas to throw into the building first and loose their gas masks playing poker? They could've done at least that  if they were to chicken shit to go in without tear gas even.

Nothing wrong with tech students being chicken shit in such a situation. Something is wrong with chicken shit SWAT teams though.

We all know it will happen again. This country needs a better solution then SWAT.

Its amusing that these other nations are taking the opportunity to use a tragic event to make superior statements to America and its freedoms when they aren't capable of preventing the same occurences.

Ok, lets not using the VA Tech massacre as a launching point for gun control debate. This is a time to honor and commemorate the dead.

No, America has an out of control culture of violence. Making guns illegal isn't going to make people less violent. To do that, you'd have to change the culture, not the law.

Makes sense to me, but I'm not the one you have to convince. Feel free to contact the prime minister of Australia, among others, who took the time to gloat about how morally superior their country is as compared to America. Apparently the ancestors of convicts still prefer to be detained, and envy our freedom?

Yes. There really is no legitimate reason for people to own guns now at days. A gun is 22 times more likely to be used for unintentional shootings (4 times), a criminal assault or homicide (7 times), or attempted/complete suicide (11 times) than to be used for self-defense.

When there are no more violent crimes, I will agree with you... when criminals no longer have guns of their own, I will agree with you... until then, you are very, very mistaken. As long as the bad elements in society have guns, there is a legitimate reason for me to own a gun.

Oh come on, don't milk it! It is an established fact that in Europe there is generally less gun crime that in the US. Less doesn't mean none.

Also your American freedom is a mere pipedream. Except for gun ownership with is traditionally rooted in American culture, there is not much more freedom there than in Europe, in many cases even less so. Your little joke by comparing UK monarchy to USA freedom is quite dated too, as you may remember we don't live in the year 1776 anymore, today's date is 04/18/2007 and many things have changed since then.

Lots of nice pictures Lonestar but I think Im quite happy with being defenceless. Its blatanly obvious that if guns were legalised in the UK it would become a much more dangerous place to live. This is fact and if you think anything else you are an idiot. Basically you yanks think you are still fucking cowboys and it is sad and pathetic to watch.
