Laughing at death

I'm sure you've all heard the news about Anna Nicole Smith's death. Today, some radio DJ was cracking jokes about her, and I must confess, I laughed at some of them. Was I wrong in doing this? She does have a baby who will now grow up without a mother, so is it really that funny? Are there certain topics which should be off-limits when it comes to humor? Are the Darwin awards cruel and immoral? How do you feel about it?

One can find a sense of humor in anything that one wishes. There is no moral standard that we must all adhere to, even if some try to legislate one. One situation in life has a great many aspects and sides to it. Laughing at his joke about whatever is not the same as laughing at the tragedy of the fact that her baby will not have a mother.

I don't believe there is anything wrong with laughing about aspects of life (or death). In fact, I feel that it is healthy. However for myself, I feel a little icky cracking jokes about people freshly dead. After some time passes and if I heard a really funny joke I'd probably laugh, but for right now, I just feel the absence of that person in the world.
And I thought she sucked.

Personally,
I can find that making jokes and finding humour in death is a morally good thing, as it is bringing happiness to people, especially out of tragedy. From a utilitarian viewpoint, this is a very good thing, and I agree. The more people that're made happy the better. Although this can backfire if it causes more harm than good, by offending people or whatever. For instance, with the South Park sketch of Steve Irwin in hell with a stingray barb through his heart, I found that distasteful, offensive and not even funny, and my condolences were with Terri and Bindi Irwin for whom painful memories were probably raised and they probably felt that it was dirtying Steve's good name. So, it's simply a matter of probablities and caution, try not to cause too much offense to those who care for the deceased, and try to bring as much joy from your humour as possible.

I think the reason there are so many jokes about her is because of her marriage to the old oil tycoon, which lasted 1/10th of her actual legal battle to get half of his estate. I've heard a few jokes today too, but was somewhat shocked to hear some people say she deserved to die. Humanity is baffling at times.
I remember hearing ALOT of jokes after Steve Irwin's death. I think in society, we start to view celebrities somewhat otherly to the point where even their deaths are taken as a part of the show that was their life. Anna Nicole Smith lead a very strange and short life at any rate, and it got extremely tragic near the end it seems.

If you can find humor in something, laugh about it by all means. There's no such thing as inappropriate laughter.

Laugh if you want too, but this beautiful, buxom, blonde, bimbo, babe would have become half a billionaire as well, had she lived. From small town Texas girl to major hard-on heart-throb, you can't tell me that Darwinian self-preservation doesn't work in mysterious ways.
Rest in Peace Anna Nicole.

For real.
It's actually somewhat shocking how her life always drew comparison to Marilyn Monroe - and then lo and behold, her time comes at a young age like her, forever preserving her image in history. I wonder how she will be remembered?

How can laughing at death be a moral or even an ethical issue when you can have no substantial grasp of what it is you're laughing at?
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”
