Do you fear death?
    #5880546 - 07/20/06 07:15 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Its something that interests me.
Especially for the psychonautic community...

I for myself was never a mourning person, even when close relatives died it wasn´t really tragic to me.
Of course it was a loss, but somehow not necessarily a bad one.
I simply can´t understand why some people drown themself in pain when another life ends, even if you have known it well.
I have lost pets, grandparents and even a friend (from a heroin overdose) but for me its nothing to be sad about.

When i was younger i somehow feared my own death, basically because i didn´t know what would be afterwards.
I don´t know that now, too, i have to admit but since i have begaun exploring the other realms i have lost my fear of death completly.
Especially dissociatives have done a great deal for me there.
Feeling your mind picked apart one by one is just something you can never forget.

I do not fear ego-death on shrooms and are rarely starteled by such things.
Death is just death for me, without any judgmental connotation.
What are yaour oppinions about this subject?

If life is a journey wouldn't that make death the end/purpose of your journey? Death is the purpose of life. It shouldnt be feared.
I'm afraid how i will die but not of death itself.

I've faced death once for real and other times got glimpeses of what it could be like after dying. Firt time I was really scared, then it got smaller and smaller. I can't say my fear of death completely vanished but I'm not scared anymore, not in that tippical way. I mean I still want to live cause I know THIS life has some things to learn me and I need to know them in order to make that spiritau shift but I wouldn't be terrified or something it f would happen to me.
I wpuld still suffer a lot if someone I care about died, but not as fear, more as being aware that I won't get to see that person anytime soon or by a just simple phonecall or a visit.
We've done that (dying) so many times in our past lives that I becam aware that it will eventually happen and there's nothing to fear about not literally. It's just the way it haooens and I'm aware that even if my matherial body will dye, my spirit and soul shall still be alive.

The 'mother of anxiety' is the apprehension of how and when. I have watched dying and I have assisted in the death of my mother. I have seen people drop dead. I too have buried both parents and put down beloved canine companions. I still hold a romantic version of my own death. Unless one dies by one's own hand, thus controlling the circumstances, the anxiety must be lived with and transmuted into an intense awareness of the here and now from the hypervigilant nervousness of anxiety. It is a matter of converting one of the five 'Buddha Energies' from their negative, unregenerate neurotic natures into the Enlightened nature. Knowing what one has to do (according to a model or a belief) is half the cure. I used to want to know that death was approaching, drop some saved (still viable acid), sit is lotus posture, trip, peak and discorporate consciously. Now, judging by the peaks in blood pressure that I experience during a trip, it is possible that death may simply 'happen to me' from a vascular incident, while tripping. Funny shift in intention and perception, but I really don't like surprises. I'm a "Vajra Personality" with some "Padma" attributes, and we like a nicely ordered life - not obsessive, just not chaotic - or surprising!

i've stared death in the face and fought for my life in intensive care
i was stabbed in the chest/lung/liver and forearm and before i went into hospital i had to change from an ambulance to a paramedic van on the way to hospital and when i was alone i didnt really think or care about it cause it was out of my hands
i prayed to god and said 'you can decide if i live or die,it's up to you'
then i asked the paramedic if i was mortally wounded,"am i gonna die from this?" and he was kind of shocked and said that i'd be ok and i thought,i hope you arent bullshitting me cause im a man and i'd really like to fucking know so i can say goodbyes to loved ones before they operated

then i had to wait roughly 24 hrs bleeding this watery kind of blood out my side because i had eaten just before i was stabbed
the next day i went in to have a shower in intensive care and i remember staring at my open stab holes and couldnt belive what was happeneing
when i walked back out from the shower room i went to my bed and the hot shower must have loosened the blood in my lung and when i coughed something popped and a stream of blood as thick as my finger just started squirting out my side like a hose
thats when they took me in and operated
when i woke up i nearly shit myself because there was a nun standing over me praying and i thought i was dead
thats when the real agony started with the coughing every ten minutes to stop my other lung from collapsing
i survived

man - that stabbing story is messed up!

Im not a morbid person, or a suicidal person in the least (in fact im pretty damn happy most of the time) but I do take a kind of comfort in death. I LIKE the thought that once i've lived my life, there is absolutely 'nothing'....no pearly gates or anything, everything will just cease.
I find other people's fear of death very hard to relate to. Almost like it's a part of my brain that never quite got going....lol...or maybe I was dropped on my head as a child.....

It's the ONE thing we all undeniably have in common, it's the one thing we can rely on.

just my thoughts,
cheers

We are biologically designed to fear death. Everyone fears death. Those who say they do not lie or they are crazy. The trick is to use your fear to enhance your life...not destroy it.

A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

Wow, this is a pretty childish statement that has no solid prooves. And anyways depends on what you understand by gear and gthe limit between caution and fear. I am not afraid of death and I am not either lying or crazy. I think fear vanishes when one comes to acceptance and acceptance comes with understanding. So if you undersatnd why death occurs and what it brings then more likely fear in gone away.
So yes, I state loud and clear that I'm not afraid of death anymore and refuse to be considered as lying or being insane.

I don't believe there is much to fear about death. Once you are dead it's not like there is anything you can do. I'm sure everyone panics as a reaction to fight for life. And why wouldn't you.. But once you have died, its not like you can even care. I am an atheist just FYI. I believe some people just cant handle the concept of being gone once you die, no thought, no feeling, no you, hence god. But I do believe that I am wasting my life away.

Not at all. What strikes the oyster cannot destroy the pearl. My moment of the death will be serious business though as I navigate through various states of consciousness that I have never experienced before. No doubt, the actual sensation of having your body slip away before you will cause un-ease at first, but I have a feeling I will immediately recognize the experience.

Everyday we fight for our life thats how life goes from the begining...

and no i don't fear death because it will happen anyway so what is the point of being afraid of death. We only have to make something good in our time to be remembered in the memories of those who loved us.

Couple of friends and I were hanging out. One goes, "man, what would you do if you died like right now?" The other friend said,"It'd be my time to go then and would think naturally of it."

I was somewhat shocked by the response but it made sense. If it is your time to go then who are you to change that unless you cheat death.

People from other countries would see how Americans wouldn't cry as much for death and think we're absolutely crazy because of that.
--------------

Just recently, I have started to cry more. I guess it's the remembering experiences with a "loved" one...

It feels good to me to get it out. And I feel like it affects how I live my life from therafter.
