Man it's a sad day in Shroomery history, we're getting thoroughly and completely spanked by a team with 1/3 the CPUs. I'm not ready to admit defeat yet, but we're looking pretty damn beefless. Oh well... race to #1?

#1???  I like to set achievable goals...  If I could get the numbers like OCAU or [H] I'd be very happy indeed.  #83 is a good target..

Oh, we'll be seeing you shortly..

I just noticed this sticky thread now...
And I dont quite get it! What does it do? How does installing this thing on my pc add to the research?

I read the:
"It uses novel computational methods and large scale distributed computing to simulate timescales thousands to millions of times longer than previously achieved. The client software is designed such that for every computer that joins the project, there is a commensurate increase in simulation speed."

but this just sounds like jibberish to me..... someone translate to english please.

edit: ok wait, does it work out equations and send its results to the main server? Is that how many pcs would help make one big mega-pc?

You hit the nail on the head with that edit. From what I've gleaned from the explination: they chop up the huge time simulations of the behaviours of proteins into smaller "chunks" and then have each computer work out a "chunk". Thus, they can work out many aspects of the same timeline at once, increasing speed greatly.

The story goes, or the way that I was told
There was a king that always felt too high and then he fell too low
And so he called all the wise men to the hall
And begged them for a gift to end the rises and the falls
But here’s the thing, they came back with a ring
It was simple and was plainly unbefitting of a king
Engraved in black, it had no front or back
But there were words around the band that said
Just know: This Too Shall Pass

I like the estimate time thing, I'm working on a 4,000 frame WU. I'm halfway done in a few days and it estimates I'll finish in a month and a half LOL

Hey everyone! how's it goin'? I'm new to the forums here (in fact this is my first post! yay!) but a long time visitor of the site. Also i just joined Folding@Home and the shroomery team. Sounds very interesting and am more than happy to contribute (I'll install it on my desktop also) But anyways, I must sleep now... 3rd shift job  :smirk:

edit: when i try to install the graphical version with the service installer (win xp) it gives me an error at the end of the installation and wont finish.  :frown:

I am coming towards 450WU's in the next day. I am looking at increasing my towers folding also. I will not let Pande's lab conquer us.

I'm doing what I can...only 3 WUs finished thus far (I was running SETI@home for a couple years before they retooled it and confused me away) but they're finishing approximately every other day.

Couple questions:

First off, I lost all progress on a WU when I restarted explorer manually (to free up some memory). The tray icon didn't reload but the process was continuing. I killed the process manually and when I restarted the client I had lost a day and a half worth of processing. Any way to set restore points, or something?

Second, how do I get one of those neato cool double helix guys to show underneath my avatar?

Fold on!
