the death of movies
    #5773480 - 06/20/06 06:25 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

as time goes on movies tend to loose there mass hypnosis they have on the masses in society. since 911 something in human consciousness in the west changed
changing everything very subtly and subtly changing the culture and no one seemed to notice.
the art of movies is dying as human are more interested in experiencing something real instead of just watchin it on a screen and daydreaming.

I'm surprised you've not had more film students give you a telling off yet! There is a case for film beyond the book, for example, as a medium of enlightenment. It is a matter of how the movie is received, the perceptions of the audience. Though i couldn't claim to know, i imagine the filmwatching masses will not receive new understanding, spiritual progress or mental enlightenment, or much else through watching a movie. That is the sadness.

Many of us will have experienced epiphanies of understanding or perhaps joy through watching a film, of course ever the more so through the combination of the art and the shroom (etc). Movies may have their socio-cultural-political edge, their opiate for ignorance as has much else in our world, but the rise of independent film for example can help challenge some of the deranged social expectances and precepts we all are afflicted by (to varying personal degrees), that which in particular is so often (inherently, subtextually etc) propagated by Hollywood productions.

Though it is still a medium dominated by the few and therefore to be viewed with all eyes at all times, i would argue the movie can be a valuable tool in personal progress, furthering and enlightnement. Particularly, when experiencing higher perceptions (to both art and institution (that which is behind the art..,) to the little red pill we are watching.

Of course the enjoyment and value of any given film is subject to viewing alignment to the director, his vision and application of such, and the to the themes that the film aims to explore or expatriate. Such is the medium to the senses that it can be more powerful than the product of pure written word, the book. Therefore watch with interest, an open heart and caution. Then you may experience something wonderful, envisaged and crafted by another for you, and perhaps throw off some of the shackles of (galactic) paranoia.

As for the world at large... Who could tell what has changed since 9/11, or more importantly, ever! All is change. And so we cannot change the Other, and should not consider it. But we may change the world, and accept the Universe. Mindfulness of One's perceptions in viewing the movie is one way to do this. If you feel something is changing in amongst the population Other, ask them, explore, create.

We may discover the secrets of the few in the truth of the many, in our hearts. Movies can be another route into ourselves, to discovery. Do not decry them completely, be mindful of all that they must entail and be bourne of, do not be ruled by an intangible fear. All is change and progress, as can be the movie.

some people live their lives out through movies, allowing themselves to be so connected with the actors, they mistake the emotions and experiences as real, therefore losing interest in the actual experiences.

movies are cool and everything.. but i wouldnt lose any sleep if hollywood shut down.
