perhaps part of it is that people dont want to be self dependant, they want to have something else dictating them, something to 'guide' them, look at the religious factions, they are filled with either 1. ignorant people or 2. weak minded people

while those of us who are spiritual explorer's ourselves are willing to face things others would never concieve...

but then again, i like the industrilization, it gives us much more freedom, it gives me food every night, i dont have to worry about hunting, it gives me the internet also, so that i can communicate with you and him and her whenever i need to

communication is important, we just have to communicate the right thing, and industrilization is helping some while hurting others..

you always have to look at the positive and the negative, find a balance.

Yes, I agree that a balance must be struck. I would not wish to be totally independent of society. There are many things I would rather buy than make myself, and even for those things I would want to make, I'd have to buy the supplies to do so. I think total self-reliance is an exercise in futility, and it's good to be part of society. I would also be a hypocrite to condemn technology when I enjoy the benefits of such things as the internet, cell phones, stereos, automotive transportation(though I see this more as a necessary evil), and so on. I do not wish to live the life of an aesthetic or a minimalist, but I think it would be more rewarding to turn to a simpler life than what so many people seek in this day and age. I have trouble around Christmas and my birthday because it's so hard for me to think of things that I want. What I want isn't "things." I want to feel satisfaction in what I accomplish, and make real connections with like-minded people. I don't feel that consumption is evil in itself, but I feel alienated by the empty promises and twisted values of consumerism.
